Sunday Ticket for $100: a great value for out of town NFL fans

I don't have a "side". All I am saying is that when MLB tried to do the same thing they got a lot of negative publicity and had to back down after congress threatened to get involved.

To clarify I did not mean you individually.

I was referring to the other side of the debate on the issue.

I can see how a case could be made for both viewpoints.

There are a lot of people, such as me, living in the U.S. but unable to subscribe to DirecTV for different reasons including apartment dwellers with no place to put the satellite, or no direct access to the southern skies.

That is something I would try taking up with the NFL and Sunday Ticket then. DirecTV has contractual ties that allow them to be the only TV provider to carry Sunday Ticket. I'm sure that there is some form of undocumented waiver process that you can go through for an exemption. But I'm guessing that they will make it as hard as possible so that other people that could get DirecTV and choose not to do not game the system. Also, there default response will be that you can watch the games available in your area and it is not their job to provide you games from outside the area.

I think this is one of the reasons why the NFL went with DirecTV. Most (probably 99%+) can get DirecTV if they want to. Unless they have tree problems or apartment situations. If they would have went with a single cable provider there would be large areas of the country that would not be able to subscribe if they choose to do so.

Also, as some mentioned you could do the XBox route which is one alternative for the non Directv people.

Also, I will say that I tried doing something similar a couple of years back trying to get a HD broadcast waiver for CBS, NBC and FOX and it was a gigantic pain in the ass .

Yeah... based on that, I'm betting that customers inside of the US won't be able to get Sunday Ticket without DirecTV. Bummer, because I can't get it (no clear view of the southern sky) - I'd be willing to pay a couple hundred for Sunday Ticket alone, but I doubt that's in the cards here.

It's just for people like you. I've been a Sunday Ticket customer for years, for the exact same reason. All it does is require you to check a box that you can't get DirecTV. There's no checking up on it.

And they fully accept the reason that you're blocked from the satellite.

They don't care -- the reason they make it a requirement is it has something to do with the contract between NFL and DirecTV. It has to have some connection to the regular DirecTV service somehow. Either part of it, or for people who can't get it.

It's been hassle-free the last few years for me. I check a box. That's it.

I've even had customer service on the line before, and they're used to it.

Good to know. Thanks for letting everyone here know! Every time I've ever dealt with issues like these it has been a total pain in the butt. How do you receive NFL Sunday ticket? online? What are the costs associated with it?

Larryo is correct

I have been a Sunday Ticket subscriber for the past 5 years.....EVERY year I give them the same old BS story that its too high for my income and I would like a good deal..sometimes you may get a customer rep that is hard to deal with, but keep trying even if it takes you a few calls during the month...you will eventually get an offer that is very good.

The last 2 years I paid $30 a month for the season which covers 5 payments and got the extra Max offer for free.

Just make sure you always pay your directv bill on time or it will be tougher to get a good deal

NFL Rewind is available for $39.99.

It isn't live and the service is "blacked out" with games in progress.

It does have the advantage of zero commercials and easy rewind.

It's easy to watch all the games of the week several times with how short the program is without commercials.

It started about 3 years ago, and I think it was exclusive to the PS3. I have a PS3, so I got it. You had to order it through the PS3 Sony store (on the console). As part of that, there was some disclaimer that included some language about "unable to receive DirecTV" and you just check it. No problems. And I remember speaking with customer service at some point (in the early launch, there were some tech problems with the streaming), and in just small talk I said my home lot didn't have a clear shot of the satellite. It used to, before HD. But the newer HD satellite is lower in the sky.

Then at some point, it became a PS3-linked service, but you could stream to your computer also.

Last year, it was completely de-coupled from PS3. You could get it there, but you could also get it on the web, which I did. Same deal. No hassle.

What I'm saying is this -- this deal with the Madden game may have some kind of trap, because they've never done this before. I took the risk and pre-ordered (it's a limited quanity) and at least I'll get a $60 game. But I do know they don't care or hassle you about whether you can get DirecTV.

But who knows -- I'm telling the truth. There were multiple attempts back in about 2005 for me to get DirecTV. When HDTV came along, I had to switch to cable. Maybe they know that.

I have been watching this deal since it came out on slickdeals. Every game comes with a code it has been confirmed by the game makers that it's only to be used on mobile and computer and you don't need dtv. Also computers hook easy up to a tv and phones to for example I have a note 2 and just bought a mhl adapter for this... also for the people who don't play sell the game at game stop or something you can easily get 35 or 40

Yep. Last year I played my games on a TV connected by HDMI to my computer. It was good quality video -- maybe not as great as a network HD broadcast, but definitely very good.

Hmm.. I just cancelled Directv and was gonna go with Rewind but I might just jump on this and watch the games on my Laptop-HDTV. I guess I can just pre-order and see it works for others. If not, just return.

So I have directv, how would they know in this offer if I have it?

Basically it would be a heck of a lot cheaper to do this then pay for Sunday Ticket through directv.

It says on the Amazon page:

For fans who are able to receive DirecTV service, a special promo code will be included entitling them to an exclusive promotion, including $10 off per month for their first year of service, and one year of NFL Sunday Ticket Max at no additional charge.

Just in case there is still any confusion, the article/link below pretty much answers any grey areas for normal fans the FAQ leaves out. I bought the game the day this deal was announced back in May, and can't wait to have NFL Sunday Ticket!

Madden Special Edition Includes ‘Sunday Ticket’

- But even if you live in an area with DirecTV access, and choose not to subscribe, you may still use the code to watch Sunday Ticket games on your computer, tablet or other mobile device. You don't have to subscribe to DirectTV. (Note, can't be used on the actual PS3 you own)
That comes from Anthony Stevenson, Madden's director of marketing, clearing up some confusion from the official announcement yesterday. "With this offer you don't need to be a directv subscriber," he said today via Twitter. "You can access Sunday Ticket digitally."

-The official news release said simply that the "unique code" included in the box was "for fans unable to receive DirecTV service." The other bullet points implied those that did have access to DirectTV would have to sign up to take advantage of the code. "Offers like this are complex and have to be written a certain way," Stevenson explained later. "Believe me, I wish it was easier too."

It's been years since I watched Netflix on a computer, always on my TV now. I have a WDTV Live, Roku and others have similar capabilities. But neither NFL Rewind nor this support such devices, so for now at least I'll pass.

My guess is that the NFL and DirecTV don't want to go this route because football requires higher bandwidth than most entertainment to look good. But other sports streaming services support them.

i'm sure this is music to the ears of alot of the "fans" on this forum who cherry picked the pats as their team back in 2001.....

Also to note typically DirecTV offers Sunday Ticket for free for all subscribers on week 1.
