Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski appears to be making strides toward returning from back surgery. But just how soon he’ll return to the field remains to be seen.

Gronkowski has resumed some light workouts, and Ed Werder of ESPN reported that people who have been working with Gronkowski describe him as being in good spirits, looking good and making significant progress.

Originally, they said he wouldn't be able to work out at all for the first six weeks after surgery. It has been four weeks today. He looks to be ahead of schedule.

Technically, it's been 3 weeks from today since his surgery. His surgery was June 18th.

With about 9 weeks to go until week 1, I have a very good feeling that Gronk could be playing at Buffalo.

I thought the joke was I saved money by switching to Geiko.

You are right. I can't count. I counted the day of his surgery as a week. Duh!

It is three weeks today.

OH MY...you mean.......?

that would work but then the second part is a bummer...

...and then Kim Kardashian spent it all and ate me for a between meals snack....

Good news. I'm just wondering about his durability long-term, which is hard to fathom when you look at a person who is as massive as Gronk. He looks indestructible. I hope he comes back 100%. Dude's a beast. With Ahern and Welker gone, he may have had an even bigger year if he started off the season completely healthy.

Florio is going to be pissed

he'll just reach back into his sack full of Hernandez "stories" and break a "new" one...like he's been breaking wind the past decade...

Fortunately Gronk's contract is set up so the Patriots aren't really deep on the hook for 3 years until that $10 million option comes due on Feb 28th after the 2015 season. So I can see Gronk here this year and then at least 2 more years.

Then after that, the Pats have a big decision to make.

Yeah. I think I could take him now.

Actually losing a bit of mass may help in his back recovery. Let him ease it back on. Anyway, kinda hard to lift substantive weights with a broken arm.

Dang... just looked at the picture and he does look skinny. It's better than if he got fat though.

But this can't be everyone has told me the Pats will be without there 5 leading targets from last year. Now your telling me the number one target is ahead of schedule. Can't be . There must be a mistake the report was really supposed to say who will be available first Gronk or Ahern?

It's easier to shed fat than build muscle. The muscle loss wouldn't hurt so much as a receiver, but as a blocker, it would have an effect. I'm not worried, though. This is a very encouraging report and he should be able to gain the muscle mass back by the time the season starts if he's doing light workouts this soon after the surgery.
