"This Thursday the NFL will hold its annual supplemental draft.

Usually there are one or two names in the draft that draw interest from most of the NFL clubs. That is not the case this year.

The new name that is “hot” is offensive tackle Mike Bamiro from Stony Brook University. Bamiro is not in the supplemental draft but he is a free agent who is free to sign with any team in the NFL.

This is not just any name. Had he been able to play this fall he was looked at as a potential mid-round type player. Bamiro has great size at just under 6-8 and weighs about 340. He has good strength and better than average bend and overall athleticism. He shows good ability to slide and recover and has some natural snap to him."

I know OT isn't a position of need but to get a mid round prospect at OT certainly can't hurt our depth.

This has that "Armond Armstead" feel to it.

Is he good enough to make the 53-man roster over at least one of Svitek, Zusevics, Haslam, Fisher, Mattes, etc.? Keep in mind those others have been partaking in off season activities since April; they all have a huge head start on the learning curve over Barimo.

On one hand I feel like why not put in a 7th round pick for him and see what happens. On the other hand that feels like the team is just giving away a draft pick for nothing, as he will most likely be cut.

See if nobody puts in a claim for him, and sign him as an undrafted free agent. That's a big jump going from Slippery Rock to the NFL in one year. A season with Dante on the practice squad after the late start is his best bet.

All kidding aside, I will be the first to admit that I don't know **** about a tackle from Slippery Rock. Maybe some of the Draft Forum gurus can weigh in on Barimo. Since he is an UDFA and if he is half as good as NFP makes him sound, then yeah - sign him! Why not? With Thomas departed to Indy the Pats could use whatever is the best competition they can find for OL depth, a unit where injuries are the rule rather than the exception.

"He's been a major part of the road to success not only as a player but as a person," football coach Chuck Priore said of Bamiro. "He never missed a practice, never missed a game because of injury. He stands for hard work and toughness, and he's a good person."

Because no one knew he was eligible for the 2013 NFL draft and because he exhausted his college eligibility and therefore is ineligible for Thursday's NFL supplemental draft, Bamiro is a free agent. Priore has been fielding calls from a variety of NFL teams.

"The NFL is very realistic for him," Priore said. "His body equals the measurables, and his talent gets better and better. Athletically, he's well-prepared, and he's got the character and work ethic."

Conaty is expecting representatives from 12 to 15 teams for Thursday's workout. "Interest is extremely high," Conaty said. "Some teams offered contracts for him to sign before he works out. There aren't many 6-8 players who can bend the way he can and are as athletic."

I doubt he signs with a team unless he has a good chance of making their final 53. In fact, if a team sees him as a 4th round prospect, I wouldn't be surprised if someone offers him some guaranted money like we gave Armstead.

Mike Garafolo: Philadelphia Eagles to sign free agent Michael Bamiro - NFL News | FOX Sports on MSN

The Philadelphia Eagles just got themselves a mid-round prospect without having to use a mid-round pick by agreeing on a deal with former Stony Brook offensive tackle Michael Bamiro, sources told FOX Sports.

The 6-foot-8, 335-pound Bamiro was rated a fourth- to sixth-round pick in next year's draft, only to learn he had exhausted his NCAA eligibility because he began attending college at Pitt in 2008, albeit only as a student and not a football player. Stony Brook appealed on Bamiro's behalf to add another year of eligibility for 2013, but it was denied shortly after he was named a first-team FCS All-America by the Sports Network.

Bamiro was then declared ineligible for last week's supplemental draft, thus making him an immediate free agent. It worked to his advantage because he was able to have more control over his destination, but it worked against him because he didn't practice in the spring and was unable to receive a big signing bonus. A source told FOX Sports that Philly compensated for the meager signing bonus by guaranteeing a portion of Bamiro's base salaries in his first two seasons.

He worked out for NFL teams last week under the supervision of former Eagles offensive tackle Tra Thomas, who has been training Bamiro and undoubtedly vouched for his pupil in speaking with his former team. Scouts from 22 teams attended last week's workout, and several made a strong attempt to sign Bamiro. A source said the Miami Dolphins were in the running until late in the process.

Bamiro joins No. 4 overall pick Lane Johnson as potential tackles of the future for new Eagles coach Chip Kelly. Johnson will surely be a tackle of the present, as he's expected to start this season as a rookie. He began the spring as a backup but soon overtook Dennis Kelly as the right tackle for most of the reps with the first-team offense — even if Kelly warned the media not to read into personnel groupings.​
