Celtics New Coach Butler's Brad Stevens

Excellent college coach but he's going to have his hands full in his first couple of seasons in Boston. If I'm Ainge, I look for any way possible to deal Rondo's punk ass. Having him on the team will only make Stevens' job that much harder as the team rebuilds.

I fail to see how Ainge keeps Rondo on the team. Once he's healed, he would offer the Celtics most value given his contract.

I know some are predicting that Stevens gets "eaten alive" and has an awful record his first few seasons - but unless I'm missing something Ainge seems like he wouldn't mind the Celtics getting high draft picks for the next few seasons

That's not to say Stevens and the remaining Celtics will be trying to lose - but he will be focused more on young player development and not W/L per Ainge's plan.

With a six year contract he has a good shot to gain a better roster - but the next few seasons are ones where Ainge won't give him much.

If a good trade for Rondo is offered I say take it - but it doesn't hurt to have a top tier PG to rebuild around, even if it is a loose cannon like Rondo.

Ultimately the question becomse not whether the Celtics want Rondo - but whether Rondo will act up to gain a trade out of town, because he may not have the patience to be part of a rebuilding project any more than Doc et al were.

Here's a new angle to consider. I think Rondo is a highly intelligent player and was tuned off by Doc and they clashed bc Doc isn't the brightest strategic or tactical coach. Doc is good at player rapport and timeout plays.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Rondo flourish under Stevens. Rondo probably got a bad reputation from Doc trashing him to media, and we know Doc is great with the media folks

Rondo was a top PG in the league in spite of having a non-existant jump shot. I fail to see how he didn't shine under Rivers. And his reputation as a punk is well documented, both on the court (which we can see) and off the court (which we can't).

Yeah, Rondo flourished under Rivers. I'm not sure there's a point saying he didn't.

I was talking about the perceived reputation of Rondo. I could see how an intelligent (but stubborn) player like Rondo may not have the best relationship with Rivers especially if he didn't respect Rivers' strategic or tactical thinking. It's kind of like Chris Paul with Del Negro, where you could tell Paul would tune Del Negro out and it wasn't really because Chris Paul was a head case.

Brad Stevens was able to lead and motivate a mid major team to over achieve. He probably is a great leader of college men. Can he lead professional athletes with egos? Can he adjust to the pro game style of play? I don't know. But I believe he is a quality individual with ability to lead certain men. He's a legit candidate in my book and I have no problem with the choice if I'm hiring an NBA coach.

Even better I think Rondo and Olynyk and sullinger are made for each other as all 3 are very high IQ players who can help each other. Rondo makes space with his speed, Sullinger likes to play below the rim and Olynyk will definitely be pulling some bigs out of the paint. Olynyk will finish as a top 5 player from the draft IMO.

given that it's a small school that nobody had heard of 10 years ago, and they don't have the scandals (yet?) that we regularly hear about in college sports, isn't reaching the finals -- two years in a row -- worthy of respect?
