The draft has got me thinking of the possibility of another D-lineman. I think it's unlikely they draft one as it ranks low on the list.

But I'd like to hear some hoenst opinions on Seymour.

Does everyone think he was as dominating in years past?
At times he didn't look dominating or his usual self. I think back to the SD game against McNeil and he looked overtaken at times granted Tully was on that side. But I can't recall him overtaking any games.

Now I know he gets double teamed alot and it's hard to assess.

He did have his knee cleaned out at the end of the season.... could this have caused him to be a step slower? I know some people have discussed on threads that he got his pay day and that may have affected his play.

So with that.... how long will Seymour actually be here? Will BB cut ties at the end of his mammoth contract? Could we see a replacement this year if value to good to pass up drafted? I think unlikely.... but what about subsequent years?

Discussion on his performance if you think it's dropped or is the same typical Seymour. Did he have an off year because of a knee? Has he lost a step? What do you think his future is?

From my view Seymour was every bit as good this year as ever. What makes Seymour good is what doesnt stand out. He plays great 2gap run discipline, he hustles like no DL in the NFL, and he is able to get some pass rush with one hand tied behind his back playing 2gap.
The clains that he was less than himself this year were IMO because Warren played very well, Wilfork is imporving and therefore there was less talk about Seymour. That had nothing ot do with his play just that guys who hadnt been talked about before started to be more worthy of touting.
He did miss time with injury, so overall he was less effective, but while on the field I saw exactly the same player. He was and still is IMO the best DL in the NFL.

Our strength is DL but that being said it woudn't surprise me if BB went DL in the first round. If there's someone we can't pass on, he will draft him.
IMO a team wins on both lines of the ball.

He started Training Camp on PUP, he got Rod-knee'ed in the elbow, and you noted his knee scope after the season. I am one of the people who noted a mild decline in his performance, but I believe it was a function of injury, not desire. He was solid and with a healthy off-season should be back strong and a matched bookend with Ty.

What should get us excited is Vince, he's been steadily improving and with a good off-season should really be scary.

EDIT: As far as drafting a DL, there are some good ones who should be considered if they fall to the Pats. Carricker from Nebraska and Okoye from Louisville being the two highest ranked.

he had a lot of injuries this year..his elbow..knee..and so on.

i think hes a dominant player..its very hard to judge 3-4 DL because you dont know what they are asked to do..usually they need to get a good push to allow our LBs to run in. thats why #s arent very important with our DL imo. Sey said it himself..people can say whatever but not every fan/media knows what their responsbilities are. It can look like hes doing bad but in reality..he might be doing what he was asked.

i think Sey's injuries slowed him down obviously but he wasnt bad by any terms..he was much better than decent aswell. not his best year but a solid/good 1. i believe his future is nothing short of what we expected earlier..hes going to continue to be a pro bowler who will come to play. my only knock on big sey is his penalties..he seems to love hitting players..especially QBs late and hes been called a lot on roughing the passer.

Seymour is a leader and the 2nd best player on our roster. He opens it up for the LBs and makes their job easier since he demands double team and still does a great job.

how did the injury slow him down? well if a knee was bothering him..obviously speed/quickness/pushing off could hurt but the elbow..lineman need to use their arms a lot to engage/break off blockers/do moves and thats probably why he wasnt as good as past.

Sey is fine and is and will continue to be GREAT

Seymour is overrated. Good against run, sucks rushing the QB. Slow as hell.

maybe hes not very fast because hes a DT in a 4-3..hes 320lbs..you expect him to be fast?

hes actually a pretty good pass rusher..just doesnt get to QB as often as he could

I know everyone cant be Chad Jackson.
Do you have any concept of a 2 gap defense?

what team are you a fan of?
No no Biggie, we who "don't really know ****" are being shown the way to true enlightenment. Don't fight it, just genuflect and put an attentive expression on your face.

You are establishing a track record as one of the silliest posters on this forum. If youare not a troll from another team, you should consider it. ;)

point taken..... I will relish the knowledge

In all honesty, I feel that Warren has surpassed Seymour. That doesn't mean that Seymour is not any good anymore. quite the contrary. Seymour is still one of the best in the league. This year he was hobbled not only by his knee, but by his elbow injury as well. If Seymour recovers fully, I believe that Warren, Wilfork and he will be extremely dominant. However, we do need Mike Wright and Jarvis Green to see more rotation time to keep the front 3 more rested through the game.

I'd love to see the Pats get an outside speed rusher specialist for obvious passing downs.

tbc lined up at DE in nickel i think

you are correct, but i'm not a real big fan of him although he played well.

and he might not get resigned

i'd like to see them use a 3rd or 4th to go after a speed rush type of guy that can go in their for that purpose right away and they can work on other stuff later. a guy in college where that was his number one duty

i agree that he didnt do it very well .. he danced a lot but just throwing it out that we might be using LBs to rush..maybe Pierre Woods next year who played DE in college

ya woods should get a chance in the preseason defintiely.

but if you look at the roster they only have 3 legit speed rushers(TBC, Colvin, and Vrabel) and Vrabel is slowing down more of a power hybrid.

i want to see a guy who will go all out and attack the qb.

I don't think there willbe a lot of GMs beating on Tully Banta Cains door.
I think he can help us. I'm not sure that he earned a starting job this season, but he looked very good to me as a role player, specifically rushing the QB as a nickel DE.
I think he returns unless, there was a deeper reason why he didnt play vs the Colts. (My understanding was that it was to get Vrabel outside because he;d be more valuable vs the Colts in that position) Or unless he develops and ego that he 'earned a starting job' and unfairly had it taken away.

I think he would make a very good backup OLB/DE on 3rd down. He also has to have upside because this was his first real playing time. Ithink his offers in FA will be meager, so if he wants back, and if BB isn't soured on him, it wont be a money issue.
