I vote "open but closing." This is due to his age, mostly. I believe that TB12 has about 3-4 great years left. So closing because he's on the back nine of his career but still open.

I voted wide open, but don't like it. Rules keep changing. The QB who stays in the pocket can hardly be hit anymore. Yes, your foot speed starts to go at 30, but so? If he got hit like Y.A. Tittle (google the B&W bleeding from the head picture) I'd agree about age, but QBs are going to age like kickers.

BTW, Y.A. Tittle's 38 TDs in a season where it isn't a penalty if you hit the receiver until the ball is in the air, in 14 games, when you can hit the QB in the head - after three steps after he throws... as I was saying, that is the REAL passing TDs in a season record. Brady, P. Manning, and Marino are wimps not fit to carry his pads.

Yes, that is blood in Black and White.

Brady will never face that and may decline in effectiveness in his 40s.

Wide open implies that he's somewhere in the middle of his career but the reality is he's likely in the last 5 years of it. I still hold out hope he'll play and play well into his 40s but it's not very likely.

its more like the patriots Window of Opportunity as long as Brady is the QB they will be a playoff team so that means they got a shot at the SB every year but if Brady was not the QB I don't think they win more then 5 or 6 games

Brady's WOO (really?) is just peachy right now. You can still make the argument that he's the best QB in the NFL. Of course, he'll be 36 before the season starts, but I haven't seen him lose a step really; it's anybody's guess when he will. I'd say he's got AT LEAST two or three solid years left in him if he can stay healthy. He may continue to play after his inevitable decline, but an 80% Brady (or whatever) is still better than most quarterbacks.

Gotta figure that the Patriots are still the overwhelming favorites in the division, and anything can happen in the playoffs. Brady is the main reason why the Pats are still contenders IMO, even more so than Belichick. Although I have to say that losing his core group of go-to receivers this year doesn't look good...on the other hand, the team has won Super Bowls with no-name guys catching the ball, basically.

What also helps is the emerging running game, I'd say. The Pats were the #1 overall offense last year in both yards and points, but I don't need to tell you that.

Brady is still the man. That's my point. Without him, the Patriots are a middling team maybe, in my opinion. Better hope he stays healthy.

I voted open but closing because there are a heap of question marks over the Patriots roster. I'm not sure what the team would be like without Brady. Belichick is collecting talent, but without impact, talent is just talent.

Very few QBs past 37 have ever done much,Only Elway comes to mind but that came about because he also had a dominant RB in Terell Davis keeping the pressure of having to carry the team at 38 years old.

Brady will not be able to cover up a pourous defense should they give up too many points......the RBs AND Defense need to aid Brady in a big way or he's not getting a 4th ring.

Brady has been carrying this team way too long,it's starting to get late and this is where those other guys need to step up and solidify a full talented roster.

The question's not clear, but I assumed it was meant to read "...of Opportunity to pick up his fourth ring." Assuming that's the case, I chose "Open but closing."

If the question was meant to read "...of Opportunity to play at a high level and make the Patriots competitive in their division," I would have voted "Wide open."

Brady turns 36 next month. Given that the average retirement age of the 17 SB-era HOF QB's is 37.5 and that only one of them won an SB after the age of 35 (Elway did so twice), I think we have to be realistic and accept the possibility that each season now could be his last playing at the highest level. Like everyone else here, I pray that last season was not that season.

When Brady stops playing at the highest level, though, he'll still probably have a number of seasons where he's not "Tom Brady," but will still be better than most other starters and able to make the Patriots highly competitive. The only question is, Will Tom Brady still want to continue playing when he's no longer "Tom Brady?" None of us can know the answer to that question.

But, a window is open until it is shut; given how Brady played last year, this particular window is still very, very open thank you.

I honestly don't know. I really do think that Brady ends his career as a Patriot, unless some team that is desperate to build its attendance and Brand makes him an offer so silly that even he and Gisele, with all their millions, can't ignore it, perhaps by including a point or two of ownership (remember that he negotiated an equity position with both UGG and UA).

The thing I "don't know" is how Tom Brady will react if ever has to accept that he's no longer playing like "Tom Brady." Maybe he will be content to play a few years at a lower level or maybe he'll think that's the time to hang 'em up.

We saw Joe Montana put on another jersey. So it's not unthinkable that Brady could as well. I don't think it will happen but never say never.

Gimme Shemp every day of the week and twice on Sundays.
Sure Curly is the most beloved and people defend him tooth and nail, but face it, he was just too one-dimensional. Yes, he was the all-time master of the physical slapstick routine, but that about empties his repertoire. It gets tiring and repetitive watching Curly after about a half dozen back-to-back episodes.
On the other hand, I can watch Shemp episodes on a continuous loop.
The guy was more verbally gifted than Curly.
Man, Shemp would come up with thoughts & vernacular that were so far out of left field.
And the guy was so damned freakishly ugly. And the oily stringy hair.
Who walks into a barber shop and requests,"Gimme the Shemp Howard"?
It's just so whack.
Shemp is crusty.
And plus, there's so much to see in his face. Look at all those nooks and crannies. lol. That flat nose and the scowl kill me every time. Talk abut getting screwed over by mother nature. (well, the gene pool IS pretty shallow here in Brooklyn)
Anyway, Curly's facial expressions were too childish & overly-animated by comparison.
Shemp's reflect an inner "thinking man's loser mentality", if you will.
I mean, how you gonna go through life with that mug and not be somehow damaged by it?
All in all, Shemp Howard is the stooge sophisticate choice, while Curly is the everyday man's stooge.

I really cannot BELIEVE how lucky the Colts got two times over. They pick first when Peyton Manning is coming out, and then they pick first when Andrew Luck is coming out. It must have sucked to have to dump Manning after 13 years of his not missing a start, but they are set at QB for over another decade...probably anyway. The timing of it all was uncanny, to have the one down year like that.

Finding that franchise QB is about the hardest thing a team has to do. A lot of teams look for one for decades, and two fall into Indy's laps back-to-back.

I'll tell you one thing: whoever eventually replaces Tom Brady is going to have a tough act to follow, to put it mildly.
