Would've never guessed, lol.

Well, at least it's confirmation that Goodell has absolutely sucked at addressing, what has become, his most well-known job-priority.
I hate to defend Goodell, but I think a significant factor is that police and other authorities "look the other way" with athletes and other celebrities far less now than they did years ago. I'm sure some of it still goes on, but cops have much more to lose these days by covering up. Given the presence of cell phone cameras and social media, no one gets away with stuff for very long these days, at least relatively speaking.

Kind of funny how the article itself gives reasons why the conclusion is flawed, yet they stuck with it.

There are more players making their way through the league these days and there seems to be more opportunities for players to get in trouble today.

The comparison starts at 2000-2006 as compared to when Goodell took over post-2006. Stop making it sound like the comparison starts in the 1950s or whatever.....

It's not just a case of looking the other way for celebrities and athletes. Simple fact is that it's easier to get arrested today than it was in the past. Not to turn this into a political discussion, but just look at the over reaction to things at schools as an example. Kids getting arrested for the most trivial things, things that used to be handled by the schools and parents.

Poor players are so stressed out and fearful of Herr Reich Marshal Goodell and his Gestapo tactics that they're running afoul of the law. :singing::singing: The idiots deserve him, and he deserves them. :bricks:

Lol, so, the rest of the arrests in the US are up 61% too?

Funny, it seems like virtually nothing has changed within the season for the NFL, too.

While in-season arrest numbers are down — ever so slightly — from 25.6 under Tagliabue to 25.2 in the Goodell era, the offseason arrest numbers have risen drastically.

What caused you to conclude I was referring to the 1950s? I cited cell phones and social media and was referring to pre-2000. Finally, my thoughts were also based upon friends and family who are currently cops. Contrary to what you seem to believe, I didn't confer with Elliott Ness or Joe Friday before posting.

blaming Goodell for those arrests is like blaming Kraft and BB for Hernandez allegedly committing that murder.

A bit literal minded, eh? I was lampooning your attempt to make it sound as though a seven year gap explains a 61% jump. It doesn't. Especially when the in-season arrest rate remains the same.

Look, for some unknown reason (at least to me), you're putting words in my mouth and not really reading what I'm writing. Screw off...

Or it merely points out that all of Goodell's grandstanding is utter BS....

I couldn't pick Tagliabue out of a line-up; he was never promoting himself. Goodell? The guy spends more time on TV than many of the notable players. When he does, he's usually touting his policy against mis-conduct.

Turns out it's just B.S.

When did Facebook and Youtube start?

Re: NFL Offseason Arrest Rates Have Skyrocketed Since Roger Goodell Became Commission

Facebook - 2004 and You Tube - 2005 are the dates I found.

Re: NFL Offseason Arrest Rates Have Skyrocketed Since Roger Goodell Became Commission

It's not only in the NFL. A big part of the problem is, IMO, teachers and authoritative figures are afraid to show any punishment anymore. Young people get away with so much these days. You can't look at a kid sideways without getting sued. Our politically correct society allows for a lot brazen thinking. Bring back the ruler..:violent::boxing::fish:

Actually 2000-2006 is when cellphone cameras, twitter, facebook/myspace were just starting and not ubiquitous. His point stands.

You rally want to hang a lot on the 61% argument.

Guess what ? I got 1 speeding ticket 2 years ago. Last year, I got 2 speeding tickets.

OMG, that's a 100% increase in 1 year. Not 1%, or 5%, no, not even 20%, but a full 100 %. OMG, the sky is falling.

The problem here of course is that there were a small number of events to start with. Any additional events would skew the significance.

BTW, I would argue the same point if the numbers were reversed and showed a decline in occurrences. I mean, going from 2 to 1 is a 50% reduction, but it's hardly noteworthy.

This doesn't even get into testing or critiquing the methodology of the statistics themselves.

Whether it explains ALL of it, I don't know. However I do know a cop that may have let me off with a warning for something minor now has to worry about cellphone cameras and twitter and those changes happened around 2006.

Note the word "around."

Re: NFL Offseason Arrest Rates Have Skyrocketed Since Roger Goodell Became Commission

I don't blame Goodell for the idiocy of the players.

Re: NFL Offseason Arrest Rates Have Skyrocketed Since Roger Goodell Became Commission
