Matt Light: Never "embraced" AH's beliefs

.....

BTW, this is not a second guess on my part. I was thrilled they signed AH when they did. What I'm amazed at is how the Hernandez personna (the attitude, the lifestyle, the gangsta friends) that we've found out about in recent days was known to the Patriots all along, how his teaammates were repelled by it and how it was/is so contrary to what the Patriots want on their team and in their locker room.

I'm guessing he was fairly well behaved in anticipation of that first contract.
People are all piling on now, ie. he held a gun in high school, he spoke sternly to Welker one time etc but I think most of the bad stuff he did was either in high school (gang affiliations and post nexw contract)

Seems they were willing to tolerate it as long as he worked hard, did his job, and stayed out of trouble off the field. You have to wonder, though, if team security should have known more/done more to stay ahead of what eventually came down.

We have 20-20 hindsight here but given Light's comments, etc. it does seem like massive fail on the Pats org, in particular not protecting themselves with a conduct based contract escape clause. I bet Kraft has had some heated words with BB over the loss of his million$, and far worse the permanent damage to the Patriots brand. Not good. Not good at all.

When he got all that cash, it seemed to trigger something.. he seems to have done a lot of incredibly stupid stuff in a very short period of time....

The root of all evil...

And yet in February, he rented an apartment in LA to be closer to Brady during the offseason.

So I really have to wonder what the hell went so badly wrong so quickly.

.

Aside from tattoos, there may not have been a lot of other signs, and his previous troubles could have appeared to have been in the past.. all of this stuff seems to have happened in a relatively short period of time..

I wonder if he was a "gang wanna be guy", which can sometimes be more dangerous than an actual gang member.. sure they will look at a few more unsolved homicides that he and his posse might be linked to.

His tattoos may tell a story, and usually gang experts in corrections can figure a lot of stuff out by studying them..

And speaking of money, it also helps give context to his "making it rain money" shtick after scoring touchdowns. A reminder to homies that he's the man with the money and power and can "make it rain" on them if he wants to.

One clip they've been showing of him pretty much says it all: Ahern scores a touchdown and Welker, a couple feet away, comes over to embrace him. Ahern ignores his teammate to stage his little act -- I think symbolizing that for him, team/teammates are enablers for his agenda.

Thata was in the 3rd quarter of SB 46. I remember that and thinking "What the hell, that was pretty selfish and immature".

Followed by "Woohoo, we're up 7!".

But that memory of his selfishness towards his teamates during a SB lingered.

a lot of people like guns and have their picture taken with guns.
Taking your own picture with a cell phone and a mirror...a little too Weiner-like to be considered an every day occurrence don't you think? Creepy.

Typical teenage girl behavior.

Imagine if he had made that hail mary catch at the end of the game? Talk about conflicted feelings. In a way I am glad it never happened.

Ask the Ravens how much sticking by Ray Lewis has hurt their brand.

Yeah, there's a short-term black eye, but it'll go away with time.

I think light said he was all about himself.

The comment is vague though. Never embraced his beliefs? Such as what ? Theological? political? Did he believe in gun control?

I think Hernandez stood for the right of Tibet to be recognized as a sovereign nation. Light obviously disagreed.

OTOH, how differently does his life turn out if he did make that catch?

Indeed. Now only if I could figure out how to do it.

Send a PM to Ian; he should be able to do it (I know other people have changed their usernames).

Could be. Mine's only 11. Thankfully she hasn't shown any interest in getting gang tattoos and a gun and taking her picture in the mirror yet though. I'm really praying she skips that "stage".

"Oh, yeah, sure, I knew he was going to be a murderer."

- Pretty much everyone, after anyone does something terrible.

This hindsight stuff is annoying. If Hernandez' gang affiliations and criminal behavior was so obvious, the organization would've known about it, and we wouldn't have re-upped him.

OTOH, how differently does his life turn out if he did make that catch?

Probably not much differently, except it accelerates the I'm the King of Everything attitude.

Funny, most fans were giddy after signing both TE's which would keep them here long term. Don't be one of the "Captain Hindsight" crowd. Sure, we aren't privy to the locker room but I'm pretty sure the organization didn't put murderer in their list of character flaws.

Lets not be extreme. No body saw a murder charge in his future. But with glock "selfies" (see TMZ) and his history at UF, it could be argued that a gun charge carrying jail time, drug charge, gang charge, civil shooting someone in the face charge, obstruction of justice, assault & battery from a 4 AM strip club fight, etc was likely over a 10 yr period (i.e. his NFL career).

Its the same reason why Edleman and Arrington were playing slot DB last year and not PacMan Jones.

I know a lot of people here try and discredit TMZ, but they've been as accurate as any other media outlet in it's reporting on the Hernandez murder case. This kind of makes sense.

oh, That explains it ALL, All is forgiven now A-Hole. (oops freudian typo there)

Yes sir. You fear someone from your OLD LIFE is trying to kill you; so to prevent that you KILL SOMEONE FROM YOUR NEW LIFE; the boyfriend of your girlfriend's sister.

Makes PERFECT SENSE TO ME.

Glad we now have that all cleared up....... we can start TC next week.
