My hope for the 2007 season

Ok here goes a list of what i'd love to see the Patriots do in the 2007 offseason.

Free Agency-

WR. For all the people on this board that hate on the chad Jackon Love, I'm in that category. I predicted to my friend that we would trade up and nab him when i saw him begin to drop. I threw my beer and hugged him and right away thought about a legit number 1 he will be that and more take that to the bank.

Kevin Curtis- Fast Explosive sudden quickness, Was lost in translation among Issac Bruce and Tory Holt. Fearless over the middle, untapped potential that maybe we can expose. Lethal coming out of the slot sure hands.

OLB There's only a Chosen few here and 2 on the ravens Jarret Johnson, My god I would love Adalius I already stuck him in my franchise. Thinking about it my problem is thomas is 30 and may only be a force for 2 years max and will want a much longer and lucrative contract not happening. If thomas was 26 thomas is no doubt a Patriot where Pioli would open the checkbook and hand the man a blank check.

Db. Only if we lose Samuel God I hope we keep him we need a Scary Defense And Samuel provides that and much more for the Patriots. First it shows othere players on the team that good play is rewarded and you can build a home to lay your hat in new england. But god forbid he leaves I take Roderick Hood he is scrappy confident good in run support locates the ball well may need to work in playing in our defensive system which is totally opposite the eagles and that could be a problem but maybe worth consideration.

Now that we filled up a few holes onto the draft my favorite part of the nonseason.

1st round

24. Has to be Jarvis Moss or Victor A on notre Dame that's right we need that dwight freeney shawne merriman type of pass rusher physical monster and i believe that either one of these guys could bring that if we could get them both wow i would love it we would terrorize the Afc for years with colvins contract it wouldn't be a surprise to get to olb's early in this draft Patriots love the buddy system what better then to get these two beasts on the field at the same time.

28. Paul Poslunky I liked the pick then hated the pick then liked the pick again this guy played for Penn freakin state living in lions country I've heard all about this guy all heart, smart, tenacious, fearless could add extra weight but he will be the heir appearent to teddy bruschi and who better then teddy to take this guy under his wing and show him the ropes. What's not to love no arrest record Team leader always around the ball put his ass in the weight room in 2 years and we have a real find here.

round 2 I want to trade up, again my logic is we don't have alot of holes to fill even though that's not the popular consensus around league circles. trade a 4th to move up in this spot and select brandon merriweather our own Shawn Taylor. Only reason i'm doing this is number 37 will kick his ass and if he has any complications will lose them quick cause rodney will ride that boy to get every ounce of heart and teach that man he game he could become one of the best safeties ever he can hit cover the run locate the ball and has great speed . We will have to trade up in the draft no question cause he will turn heads at the combine. If not Merriweather Arron rouse in the third or trade down later in the second.

If we get these players then The draft is already a Sucess And the other picks are just iceing on the cake in my opinion you can criticize my first 2 rounds or tell my your ideal draft i'm open for discussion.

Free Agency:
Chad Jackson injury speculation aside, the Pats aren't as bad off at WR as some would like us to think. Curtis is interesting, but in a buyer's market I wouldn't break the bank for him. Even if Chad does prove to be lame and is "stunted" in his off-season/Training Camp/preseason growth again, the core of the WRs is solid with Caldwell and Gaffney. I think Kight has the tools to step up with a full off-season. I still like Childress as the next Troy Brown every-man WR. And Troy could still be back for one more go-round. I also wouldn't put it past Pioli to have another Caldwell in his sights, some oft-injured or little used player who will blossom in the New England sun. Think positive thoughts about Chad's knee...ohmmmmmmm!

OLB: No question Thomas and Johnson would be nice additions. I'm hopeful Thomas's rapport with BB negates the rapport he has with Nolan in SF. That said, we can hope his appreciation for BB as a coach translates into good vibes with Johnson. I still would prefer to re-sign TBC before Free Agency starts, I think he's easily worth Jarvis Green money. Antwan Peek may be worth a look even though he was Capered by Dom while at Houston. We also can't discount a trade blind-siding us for one of Houston's old 3-4 boys, or someone we're not even noticing.

DB: I don't see the Pats getting too carried away in the Free Agency bidding war, if they want to do that they Franchise Samuel and thumb their noses at the rest of the league. Micken's re-signing would take care of nickel situations. I believe in Hobbs, he started last season as the #1 CB, despite his detractors. Gay or Chad Scott can, in the short term, play the #2 CB, I think they're the same player for the most part. I was pleased to see Spann stick and get lot's of time on Special Teams, but he's another taller CB in the Scott/Gay mould. Willie Andrews is fast enough to cross-train at CB, he played some in college, I don't know how his instincts are or if they can be refined in the off-season. Mitchell and Jones presumably bring size and depth to SS, we'll have to see how that goes in their first year back from torn ACLs. Hawkins is my biggest concern, him and Wilson's hammy. Sanders may not be the next Rodney Harrison, but he's solid and may even push Wilson for a starting slot (assuming Rodney doesn't get dinged again).

Draft:
I don't see Abiamari in the OLB role, I don't think he will do well dropping in coverage. I like the kid, I just think he's a better 4-3 DE. Moss is intriguing, he's got just about the best straightline speed of any DE in this draft and I loved his hustle in the BCS Championship. The problem with taking a Moss or Spencer this high is the development time. Merriman, for all his athleticism, is not yet a McGinest or Vrabel, and none of these kids in this draft approach him. As far as I'm concerned, TBC is a better all-around OLB than Merriman (watch the fireworks now ). I'd much rather take another TBC later. If we do take a DE on the first day, Woodley, he's got exposure to the 3-4 at Michigan and he'd be similar to Woods in how quickly he looked to absorb the role, but he'd still be a multiple year project.

No question Posluzney's a good LB and I love all he brings to the table, but I can't see him bulking up enough to survive inside for the Pats. He weighed in at 237 for the Senior Bowl and at 6'1" that's a lot of ground to make up to Tedy's reported 247. From what I could see at the Senior Bowl his frame doesn't seem to have room for much more. I wish I had an old scouting report on Tedy to know what he played at in college, but I'd bet he was heavier than 237. I still think the best college LB draft option for the Pats is to take Stewart Bradley from Nebraska, he's already got the size and he could go both ways ILB or OLB. Another player with the height and most of the weight is Zach DeOssie, he's also got 4.59 speed according to one site, another has him mid-4.6, that's pretty good for what we'd like to see at LB. Justin Hickman of UCLA is being cast as an OLB on the second day and while short at 6'1", may be worth a look.

I'm for bringing in another young Safety, I just want one who has some meat on his bones, Merriweather is on the smallish side. Rouse has some personal issues that need careful scouting, but I liked him at the Senior Bowl and I like his size/speed mix for helping with the big TEs and WRs. I like the depth at S with several talented players ranging between 210 and 225-ish grading out on both days.

Since he is so much unknown to me, i wouldn't be interested if the endorsement is simply
recycling some old bio material.

As for TBC, we can only wait and see if Tangini can lure him away, or if another club wants to use him as the next Dwight Freeney. Until he is signed somewhere we will not be able to assess his true value in the eyes of experts, assuming the 'Skins don't grab him and twist people's world view into another dementia, oops, I mean dimension.

The thing about Curtis is that he played behind 2 really good receivers, and as a third option he had tremendous opportunity for outstanding production, but I didn't see it. I saw a lot of go routes from him, which leads me to believe his long speed is above average, but his ability to seperate on short and intermediate routes isn't, which makes him just about worthless in our offense.
