Criqui and Cross Out as Preseason Announcers

At least those guys know about the Patriots.

Replaced by Dan Roche and Christian Fauria. Good riddance. Long time coming. Don't care much for Perrillo and Hart though.

Report: New England Patriots to make sweeping changes to preseason broadcasts | masslive.com

A definite improvement.
I'm intrigued by the hints in the article about a different style of coverage pre-season. Whats interesting is that it could either be informative, or a complete disaster. I'll stay tuned.

P.S. Anyone else here want to throw a shoe thru their TV when they have that obnoxious Sam Adams beer owner prattle on with the camera missing several plays pre season?

Sam Adams beer has been outclassed by other microbreweries. Jim Cook better start putting more time putting together tasty beers and less time talking about how awesome his beer is, because it ain't.

THANK GOD!!!! They made the preseason broadcast Unbearable. It used to piss me off to hear Randy Cross refer to Matt Light as Todd Light.

Any two humans on the planet would be better.

Todd Light was a Chucky boner.

This will get worse. According to the article there will be no play-by-play, only analysis by Fauria and commentary by Dan Roche, Paul Perillo and Andy Hart.

The sound of Don Cruiqi's voice says FOOTBALL IS BACK to me. I'll miss him. Andy Hart's voice reminds me that I need to buy more chemicals for my septic tank.

I wish both Cross and Criqui well. They may want to stick around, though, because this new format sounds like a loser.

Amazingly, that has the potential to be worse.

All I want in the pre season is the name or number of the person making the tackle or play. for some reason, this is seen as non essential information.

I actually want more play by play and less chit-chat

From reading the articles I am not sure if there will be absolutely no play-by-play at all after the starters depart, or just very limited play-by-play announcing, with mostly "sports talk radio style conversation" during the remainder of the game.

It is experimental, so if it doesn't work out well it can be tweaked for the audience and given another shot the following week - and if it is a colossal flop, they can always go back to the standard format.

Preseason games can be tough to watch for the mass audience (as opposed to die hard fans who spend time on fan forums 365 days a year), so I can understand their inclination to try something new. While it has the potential to fail miserably, it also has the potential to bring more insight, analysis and intelligent to what right now is a relatively bland and nearly meaningless product (preseason games).

Why not give it a shot?

The only way an announcer team could have gotten worse than Criqui and Cross is if they brought Jerry Glanville back in the booth. Cross is great on Sirius NFL Radio, but it is like Sirius owns an exclusive rights on his football knowledge and he couldn't use it on his preseason broadcasts.

Not thrilled with the idea of Roche and Fauria, but I see this as a huge upgrade. But I think if you got two old ladies who have never watched a football game in their lives to call a game, they would be an upgrade from Criqui and Cross.

Wachusett beers are head and shoulders above Sam Adams. :rocker:

I look forward to the 'new' format. As long as they actually talk about the game we are watching. I hope that it doesn't end up like the NFL draft where they blab on endlessly about nothing, then recap the last 10 picks in 30 seconds.

cuz all them old folks here are resistant to any change? :p

Compared to Criqui and Cross it can do nothing but win.

I've neither heard of or tasted Wachusett so I can't compare them, but my admittedly non-discerning pallette
finds nothing wrong with Sam Regular, Light or Oktoberfest.
