Jets re-sign Poteat

I wonder when our FO plans on re-signing some of our people? I know that I'm being impatient, but it would be nice if we tried to get some of our free agents under contract. That's all I'm saying.

Good for Hank in his 'dead to me' green.

Patience... one week and two days until free agency begins. And it's not like Randy Gay and Patrick Pass will be hot commodities.

Banta-Cain -- let walk?
Brown -- retire?
Davis -- re-sign
Evans -- re-sign
Gardner -- re-sign
Graham -- re-sign
Izzo -- re-sign
Mickens -- let walk
Pass -- re-sign
Sauerbrun -- let walk
Seau -- let walk?
Testaverde -- retire
Walter -- let walk

There's really only 7 or 8 guys that fit what you are saying, and they'll all be coming back for veteran minimum, with the exception of Graham. No worries.

I know. I'm just a little anxious that's all. :)
By the way, I've heard some rumblings that Pass might not be re-signed. I hope that we can bring back Banta-Cain. I know that his performance in the playoffs was not great. But I still think that he has upside. With a little work on his techniqe, isn't it possible that he might get better?

That's not the issue as much as other teams ( :cough:Jets:cough: ) overpaying for him is.

Those damn Jets. That team is determined to steal as much as they can from us.

I hope Hank plays a lot against the Pats, he is on 53rd player on the roster but there more reps he gets the more the can be exposed.

I must sound like a broken record but I really hope that this is the year that we get younger at LB. I see Davis, Izzo, Gartner and Seau as the exact opposite direction. If they are brought back and make the roster we are actually taking a step backward, if you are not progressing you are retreating. The LB unit needs an overhaul.

I wish all these guys all the best and thank them for their time but hope they never play for the Patriots again.

I wouldn't consider Davis, Izzo, and Gardner an actual part of the LB unit.

Why replace excellent special teamers like them?

Damn. In some ways I always thought of Hank as our Super Bowl good luck charm.

It is amazing to me that fans jump all over a guy for no reason. TBC has taken four years to transition form a DE to an OLB. He has stated 6 games and had 7.5 sacks. that is fine pass rushing. While he was starting he still played ST and ended up with 14 ST tackles just tone less than Izzo.

People complain that he can't cove r in pass coverage bu that is the last thing that a transitioning OLB has to learn. I would take him any day o the week as a run cover and pass coverage OLB over Droids and and Freeney. Merriman was almost the Defensive MVP and Freeney has been tagged and will get paid a minimum of $8.5 million per year. TBC is a free agent but his sack or QB pressure average per snap is much better than either. He will get better with more experience in run and pass coverage, IMHO.

Many posters complain that the Pats won't/don't draft LBs. When they finally do develop one, the first since Tedy, they complain that he isn't an instant All-Pro. Maybe its been a while but Tedy was drafted in '96, and didn't start until '99 as an OLB. He didn't move inside until 2001, when he started to star. That was F-I-V-E years after he was drafted; and a year and a half after he became a starter.

Mangini would be all over Patrick Pass. He's probably already sent Graham a "missing You" card.

My assessment of what the Pats will do is a little different than Pats1.

I believe the Pats will re-sign the following: Davis, Evans, Gardner, Izzo,

Mickens, and Seau. Troy Brown will be re-signed if he does not retire.

They will lose TBC, Graham, Pass, and Sauerbrun to free agency. No

attempt will be made to re-sign Testaverdi or Walter.

I agree with cstjohn17 that the above mentioned linebackers are neither

the short term nor long term solutions to our linebacker deficiencies.

We have to get a couple of good linebackers in free agency for the

short term and a couple in the draft for long term.

Seriously,he seemed like it,didn't he. I always liked him and I'm glad he no longer lives from signing bonus to signing bonus lol.

Pass -- re-sign
Ha ha. You're not serious, are you?

Well, maybe we can use him in camp as part of the fumble recovery team. He throws the ball on the ground and the real players scramble to recover it.

Me, too. I can forgive Mangini a lot of things, but for signing Poteat- NEVER.

I'll resist this time...;)

My beef with Banta-Cain is that he is pretty bad in run support. Somebody posted the average yards per rush given up per game this season by the Patriots, and the difference between when Seau was in versus when Banta-Cain came in to the lineup was night and day. He is a complete liability against the run and, yes, not very good in coverage either. One dimensional players don't have much place in the Patriots defense.
