Should NFL players be allowed participate in ......

I got me thinking. After Reggie Bush rolled over his ankle in that game during the All-Star game, made me think, granted, Bush was not seriously hurt, but what if that was, since it is a Patriot board, that was Tom Brady? And that injury would cost them the upcoming season, or possibly their career? How would your reaction be?

i think they should be able to do whatever. u cant control their life to football and no other activity really. yes id be angry if Brady did it but would it be fair to say you cant play something else for the fun of it? you cant go ice skating? cant shoot hoops with friends or something?


im fine if they do other activities..football isnt the only thing in NFL player's life..let them enjoy themselves

Think of poor Robert Edwards, his career ended playing touch football on the beach in Hawaii.

My view is, nevertheless, that athletic young men have to be allowed to have lives. Yes, stop them riding crotch-rocket motorcycles without helmets, but a pick-up game of basketball? You just have to relax and hope for the best. Creating an atmosphere of control and prohibition will only bring out rebellion. If they're not dumb, they know not to take stupid risks (and if they are dumb, why did you draft them?)

yes but it happens.

might aswell say players are not allowed to go to clubs or go to any party with alcohol b/c the risk that they drive..maybe cause an accident..go to jail.

just be more careful..NFL shouldnt have any right to tell players they basically can only go to practice/game..hang out with friends/family but no activities and no alcohol

The NFL gets its big billions from their TV deals because of their star players.

There's a reason most players have clauses not to ride motorcycles and do other activities in their contracts.

its a clause. the team and the player have to agree on it. ..if a guy like Brady were to agree on 1 then fine but if a player wants to be able to do what he wants..then im all for it.


wow a guy like Edwards gets a serious injury playing flag football..Reggie sprains his ankle playing basketball. it happens..its not every day though u hear a guy getting hurt doing another sport away from NFL

I was thinking the same thing. Robert Edwards. In the end, these people are great athletes who are very competitive and want to participate in sports of all kinds. Hard to so they can't play sports outside their profession

JMO but those specific kinds of rules belong within the franchise itself,not the NFL. If a franchise decides to sign a player with a sketchy background or a penchant for motorcycles (or basketball) then that's their decision to make and it's up to them to spell out whatever's necessary in the contract.
Not all players are irresponsible,not all players are stupid,and to mandate certain specific behaviors as NFL rulings really takes away from personal responsibility which should be inherent to a professional sport.
If the NFL dictated those things we wouldn't know who Michael Vick was,and the Bengals wouldn't exist.
I'd rather see the NFL stick with on-the-field issues like concussions,certain ref calls,etc than get into dictating players personal lives. The franchise should retain some freedoms and choices,the consequences of which they will have to live or die with.
More and more I see the importance of the Patriots' making character a priority,or at least as much as they can.Talent isn't everything,but that's a team assessment to make, not the NFL's. JMO.
