Brady has seen his musical receivers come & go & come & go again and just excels with whatever hand he is dealt. Guess he doesn't take it personal with nature of business so he just goes along and watches a Branch a Moss a Welker come in and then go. Props to Brady where other QBs have their go to guys stay awhile.

Tom Brady not surprised Wes Welker left New England Patriots - ESPN Boston

"Of course I have feelings, but those feelings are very personal to me...I used to get caught up in angry and disappointment, but I don't make the decisions. These things aren't up to me. At some point you've got to realize the things that are out of your control, you've just got to let go, focus on my job and what I need to do."

That's a life lesson for anybody, anywhere in any job or profession: "...At some point you've got to realize the things that are out of your control, you've just got to let go..."

I sometimes think that we out here expend more energy on matters like a valued player's departure than do Tom Brady or other professionals of his ilk.

That might be because it is not our job or profession. We are just fans, and emotion and personal feelings are very much a part of that.

As a fan, the dilemma I constantly face is that I get too emotionally attached to the players on my teams. But, at the root of those emotional attachments is the fact that I really love the teams I root for and rooting for them as intensely as I do only intensifies those feelings, particularly when they win. So, when players leave, particularly by their own choice, I find it upsetting but it's my own fault because I'm the one who created those intense emotional attachments. I understand that I'm likely making no sense, but it's as close as I can come to explaining it to myself.

As with most things, it's a matter of degree I guess.

The root of the word "fan" is "fanatic" and, yes, as "fans," we can all get emotional and take personally things that are done by people we don't know, have never met and likely never will meet beyond a quick handshake at an event or in public.

But, there's definitely a line between healthy enthusiasm and obsession. I can't describe exactly where that line falls, but I feel that I can recognize it when I see it. It does get crossed from time to time out here. ;)

Exactly! "Fan" Fanatic that's what we are & do. Passionate to our teams and players. Now'adays players change jerseys quicker than a model on a runway but it's how it is now, way of NFL.

Brady is a great player and one of the best Pats ever, but that doesn't mean he has a right to decide whether or not a player stays...its up to management and the owner to decide those things.

In any place of employment you are getting paid to do YOUR job and if your favorite co-worker is suddenly fired then you still must do your job and move on or quit, like it or not its not your decision
. ....Brady isn't quitting quite yet so he must do his job and live with the F.O. doing what they feel is best for the team,he shouldn't have a say in any movement upstairs, even as the franchise player.

"I don't think anything surprises me anymore in the NFL" is quite different from the insinuation of the title of the thread that the front office was bound to let him go.

Basically agree, but I'd put the emphasis a little differently in your last sentence.

"The Krafts are very good managers. Like all good managers, they alone ultimately are responsible and accountable for choosing the course that they believe is most likely to allow them to reach their strategic objectives, but, in so doing, like all good managers, they take very seriously the views of their most valuable employees when they make major personnel or strategic decisions."

With that said...
"I think we are going to field a competitive team,

Yeah, I would hope so, Tom! :p

If Brady really wanted Welker back he could have said to management while redoing his deal that if i help you in cap space..you keep welker. Who knows he may have said this.

I think everyone in the organization has realized and even Tom, that welker isn't a really high key in winning a championship.

Maybe he did, maybe he didnt. We won't know. But the right thing to do was not to say it. Brady knows it. After all he also knows he has the best head coach in all of football. It's not like his coach is brad Childress or Romeo Crennel. By not saying it, he showed trust and respect which hopefully will be reciprocated when Brady retires.

Heh heh. Actually, that's not a throwaway line.

Fielding a "competitive team" is exactly how Bob Kraft has described his objective for the team ever since he acquired it.

Unlike the blowhards in the Jets organization or others', Kraft has never said that his objective is to win or even be in the SB every year. He's defined his goal for the team as being "competitive" every year. That's why he never bets the house on one player or goes on Dan-Snyder-like spending sprees to acquire the one "missing piece."

As mentioned this thread sorta sounds like something the media would start. They would take a quote by a player or coach of this team and print it out of context to support an agenda.

"Brady not surprised Welker Bolted" is sort of like saying Tom isnt surprised WW bolted because of something. Management here is blah blah blah and WW bolted = he got out of here asap and did not try to stay...

Terrible.

what surprises me is the Boston media has not printed one word about the noticeable lack of ANY response by Wes Welker to the Boston Marathon incident....every single day his hair replacement ad plays on all the media outlets in southern New England, yet when you google "Welker makes pledge to Marathon victims" you get link after link after tens of links of "Amendola makes pledge to bombing victims" with ZERO reference to Wes Welker.

I tried all kinds of searches and all I really come up with is THIS one quote from Wes Welker..

In his press conference with the Broncos on Thursday, Welker told the press that the hardest part of leaving New England was splitting up with Tom Brady, his friend.

Yeah, that was definitely probably the hardest part, leaving Tom. He’s a great competitor, a great player, a great friend across the board. I wish the best to him.

Welker agreed to a two year deal with Denver worth $12 million. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Patriots and Welker couldn’t agree with a long term deal, and that’s why he went with Denver. That pairs him with Peyton Manning, and an organization run by John Elway.

He has never mentioned US, the fans...nor the coaching staff or the owner...at least not that I can find. I tried "Welker thanks the New England fans" in Google and got absolutely ZERO. I take that as, " screw New England, screw the fans, what bombing?...listen to my hair ad..."...a little harsh on my part???...OK, well then, WHERE is ANY statement from Welker since?..seems odd, you play six seasons here, the fans wear your jersey and wildly cheer for you, you play in the postseason every year and make the Super Bowl TWICE....<crickets>..."go see my hair doctor"...that's all I can get when I search NFLN, ESPN, Boston Herald, Globe,Patriots message boards and twitter...is there some secret "Welker speaks!" site I don't know about?

or is it exactly what it looks like?...am I being too much of a "jilted lover syndrome" sour grapes fan?...is it he thinks it's classier to say NOTHING now that he plays in Denver? ...really??? then how do you explain THIS from a guy who openly despises BB and the Pats...

I'm not surprised Welker bolted...just like I'm not suprised when he ran his mouth on national TV about Rex Ryan's toes against the expressed wishes of the team he played for, the NEP. That's who he REALLY is.

Tom Brady is the most high profile athlete in Boston. You'll see coverage of Brady walking the red carpet in New York and Paris as Giselle boy toy. What you won't see is Brady using his celeb status to organize fundraising beyond his own pet project, Best Buddies. Patriots have gone to Newtown, Ct a couple of times. No Brady. You never read in the gossip pages how Brady snuck into local hospitals to visit sick kids or bombing victims, etc. Funny how nobody ever drops a dime to report how Brady snuck in the back door to do good deeds.
Don't you be worrying about Wes Welker.
The most high profile Patriot OF ALL TIME is invisible......unless there's a red carpet.

Come on. Neither you nor I have any idea what Brady or anyone else does for sure in the area of charity. And beyond Best Buddies, Brady went to Africa for more than a week several years ago as part of Bono's AIDS initiative. Don't attempt to defend one guy (Welker) by disparaging another (Brady.) It's a classic deflection technique and it's cheap.

meow...

1) Neither you nor I nor anyone outside the circle of his family and close friends have any idea what Tom Brady does or doesn't do to support people in this or other situations. The activities in which you suggest Brady should have engaged comprise what I would describe as "grandstanding" when done by very high profile folks. Some high profile people are actually uncomfortable playing to the crowds and grandstanding in circumstances like this, but choose to give money quietly or raise money from among their friends. (And "dropping in the back door" when you are one of the most high profile celebrities in New England and among the most high profile on the planet invites tweets and YouTube cell phone videos. He has very little privacy and he knows that a large number of people would be unable to resist the lure of the 15 minutes of fame that such a posting would bring them.)

2) Comments like that are why celebrities like Brady and Gisele travel with bodyguards. They have no idea who is seething with resentment at them and they have no idea when someone might take those resentments beyond a Forum Posting and actually act on them when they are in public; I'm not suggesting that you fall in the latter group, but you sure seem to fall in the former.

3) Beyond the above, the philanthropic activities of Brady and Gisele are well-documented and need no defense. Let me know when the UN or Bono or Al Gore ask you to support their initiatives and I'll take you seriously on this topic.

I like 99% of your posts. That is petty and unworthy of you. I'll just leave it at that.
