But one of the stated or at least implied reasons is that ... wait for it ... BJGE fumbles too much.

As lame as the press is, it would be insulting to call the minds at the bleacher report press. More like glorified bloggers.

FWIW, at least two Pats beat writers on B/R have parlayed it into full-time jobs: Erik Frenz and Field Yates.

But it's not as if I go to the Bleacher Report on purpose; it's linked from a more reputable outfit (SI?).

Much like anything else, one has to be selective of the article they're reading, and that is often the case on B/R. That said, I have actually found some halfway decent analysis from time to time.

This particular article that Fencer links to about BJGE fumbling too much is obviously a prime example of someone who doesn't seem to know too much about what they're talking about, just like we see in other media outlets throughout the day.

I'd have to say that B/R certainly isn't a great media outlet, but it probably also gets too negative of a rap as a whole. Personally I hate to lump things into one spectrum or the other, so I just kind of skim through their stuff from time to time.

I think it provides an opportunity for aspiring sportswriters who want to get their work noticed, or improve upon their material. If I were attempting to write for a living, I suppose I wouldn't mind having a ton of people look over my material.

Hopefully the guy that wrote the article that you linked starts to research things a bit more before posting his thoughts, and shame on SI for linking to that nonsense--although I didn't check out any of the other teams' analysis.

The "NLF Press" is loaded with wanna be's looking for some opportunity to make it to the big time, to expedite the process it is better to generate some type of controversy or become a contrarian.

None of this is about journalistic integrity, it is about sensationalism, face book likes or twitter followers.. look at Felger or Borges, classic examples of "journalists" who make a nice living by being a butthole.

They shouldn't let facts get in the way of a good story. The whole premise is stupid. They are going to replace a 1000 yd runner with a guy who has had 41 carries in 3 years as well as 2 untested rookies?? It implies a guy who fumbled three times in 300 touches is fumble prone? That's less than the league average and as well all know law firm has among the best ball security in the league the last few years.. Here's a better blog with facts to support it....

Quality on Bleacher runs the gamut from pure dead wrong rants to unique insightful perspective because of the dynamic range of contributors, so it's silly to get panties in a wad over some fans' attempt to trash a player or team they dislike. I remember their worst contributor ever, NEM.

For some unfathomable reason CNN has dropped SI as it's sports content provider and picked Bleacher Report as the replacement. I don't love most sports media people, but if I have to choose between reading a Peter King article or some goober who wrote an opinion piece, I'll stick with King every single time.

For me, at least, it's having the opposite effect they were looking for. Instead of going to CNN and being filtered to Bleacher Report I have just been browsing straight to SportsIllustrated.com

I have to say it is kinda weird, especially since si.com still redirects you to sportsillustrated.cnn.com.

I used to post at CNNSI way way back...heh..I remember this one sysop, Judy...she read our AFC East thread and promptly banned half the members because we abused her a little bit...the best part was logging back in as Joker_,Joker__,Joker____, and Joker________...and then Joe Carr, Joe Kerr, Joey Carramundi, Joseph Automobile...heh...so one day I get an e-mail from Judy begging me not to be influenced by the rest of the cut-ups..."Dear Mr. Automobile..." it started out.

To be fair, I could go write an article on Bleacher Report right now, claiming that Brady's going to be cut because Belichick thinks that it's important to have a young guy at QB. That's just how Bleacher Report works.

That said, BJGE did fumble quite a bit this past year. Which, if anything, should just highlight how much of a factor random chance plays in the whole ball security evaluation. and why I really don't think people should be too terribly worried about Ridley's fumbling 'woes' (remember how you couldn't mention Ridley last offseason without someone going out of their way to trash him re: ball security?) Some guys do have an actual problem with their form, where they do incorrect things like failing to switch hands when they should, holding the ball away from their body, etc. But if a guy has proper form and someone happened to get their helmet on the ball 4 or 5 times in a season, then that's just bad luck and nothing to worry about.

I think there is still an evaluation process where you have to be approved on the basis of your work, ala 5-10 articles that you submit to them for approval.

Once you're approved (I think they claim that 1/5 writers makes it, possibly less), then there's still a process where someone else "checks" your article prior to posting it on the B/R website, so it actually takes more than one person to come up + approve an article like the one about BJGE fumbling.

Your general statement that anyone can pretty much write about anything pretty much seems to be true, however. Like someone else mentioned there have been plenty of hacks that have received attention from coming up with abstract and unpopular ideas, so I imagine that factors into things too. Long gone are the days when writers wrote factual information it seems.

welcome to the Chicken Little-ization of sports media as we know it today...where, unless it's all "REAL BAD!!!!!", nothing else is deemed newsworthy. Twitter has created this "sportsarazzi" class of sensationalistic phrase turners who seemingly have an endless compulsion to dwell on the negative.

Re: the actual content of the article, I do believe that BJGE is overpaid. Which is a large part of why he's not here anymore. But he's still pretty good for what he is--a dependable workhorse who will consistently get tough yards--and it's not like the Bengals have a ton of talent behind him.
