I don't know why everybody is so critical of Vereen, he was stuck behind Ridley and Woodhead on the depth chart, and the year before he was a rookie and BJGE was still on the team.

I was critical of him due to the fact that I thought he was picked a little too high on top of the fact that I felt a RB like Ridley was exactly what we needed at the time, so after the Ridley selection, the Vereen one looked even worse to me. I'm still looking to be proven wrong and one playoff game plus a blown coverage in one regular season game hasn't moved me off my original assertion as of yet.

Without Vereen we likely lose that playoff game, and I wouldn't necessarily call that blown coverage, it was just a physical mismatch between a fast RB and a LB that was slower.

Except for the fact that Vereen was taken ahead of Ridley. Trying to change history on us?
One of the actual criticisms at the time was that Ridley was NOT NEEDED after Vereen was taken.

To this day, I'm not sure why people criticized the Ridley pick. IMO, I thought the Vereen pick was worse.

A RB in the 3rd when you've already addressed the position in the 2nd? And he was supposed to be a 5th-rounder at best! A huge reach and a huge waste of draft capital.:mad::mad:

(I wasn't immune to this sentiment myself.)

The 'captain' was completely apoplectic about wasting a 3rd round pick on an unecessary RB like Ridley. The way he complained you would think he was talking about Tavon Wilson or Duran Harmon. I hope the careers of Tavon and Duran mirror Ridley's route.

I don't think we lose that game without his contributions. But, either way, you should probably change that to "without Brady". That sideline thrown was a lazer and a thing of beauty in spite of coverage that was otherwise tight. As for the blown coverage, the LB was very far out of position, slower or not.

You should probably re-read my post since you very clearly didn't understand it.

I don't mind a reach that's one or two rounds away if the team really likes the guy. Not to re-hash this, but it's the 4-5 rounds reaches that bother me. So Ridley didn't bother me at the time. Vereen did. For one, I don't think he was the type of RB we needed. For another, I thought that Ridley was. Finally, I actually watched a good amount of Ridley in college (being the avid SEC fan I am), and that's yet another reason I didn't mind the pick.
