Boy, was I ever wrong about this signing.

Well, he WAS billed as a possible replacement for Ray Lewis... he just modeled himself after the most recent version it seems.

What a headcase. No sympathy for guys like this. Great decision, retiring at 23. I'm sure there are plenty of other ways that he can make millions of dollars and set himself up for life by age 30 if he's even remotely prudent with his money.

Now he can focus on his true passion: Getting arrested in Alabama.

I'm pretty sure that wasn't an option for him.

He was a top 10 pick who got replaced by a UDFA rookie his second year, then got cut. Chances are he would have got cut by the Ravens this year, and been forcefully retired at the end of this year anyway.

Too bad for the guy. Perhaps it's for the best. At least he can get his head on straight. He's still young as other have mentioned and there's still time for him to make a return to the NFL if he's ready in the future.

Ray Lewis he ain't! Well the Raiders drafted another bust high in the 1st. Well at least all it cost the Ravens was money to find out he was no good.

Do you hear that? That was the sound of him pissing away his life. Oh well, good for him.

As much as we all love to watch it, the fact of the matter is, that if you don't love to play it, it isn't any fun. In fact far from it. So no matter how talented you are, you can't come close to maxing your potential if you aren't willing to commit to the game 100%. And to be able to commit to it 100%, you have to love the game. You have to love the competition, the practices, the study, the preparation it takes to get your body ready to handle the physicality of the game for up to 19 times a season.

That is why BB feels its so important that his players love the game, and that its important to them. I know it seem corny, and passe when its mentioned, but McClain's retirement is a good example of what happens when a football player at that level don't like what he's doing.

please...retirement means NOTHING when you have the Green Circus clowns willing to hire you off the street.

"my dream was always to play for a coach like Rex"...gushed the beaming McClain after the NY Jets signed him to a multi year, multi million dollar contract..

We can only hope
The Jets circus needs another act.

Although McClain was a no risk move for the Ravens, this turned out far better for them than I expected. I never thought this was a good move for the Ravens. I thought it could turn out ok, but most likely end badly.

isn't he perfect, PWP?

he fits the "only the master Wrecks can make him all pro in one season!!!!" mantra of those green 'loids...jeezus, they STILL lust for the return of Braying Edwards!!

No sane athlete with pro skills quits at 23. This sounds fishy.

You're falsly assuming he has pro-skills. He's a guy who has pretty much only played because he was a high first round pick.

I guess I and about 10,000 NFL scouts and pundits falsely assumed the numbers he put up at the combine were indicative of pro skills. Thanx for correcting me and everybody else in this quadrant of the Milky Way, Obi Wan Synovy

Probably the most accurate thing I've read was "He isn't retiring from the NFL, the NFL is retiring from him."

Hard to believe that at the age of 23, someone would pass up the chance to make that much money for any job, let alone playing a sport.

Even if I didn't have the love/passion for the game anymore, I'd sure as hell force myself to "struggle" and try to push through

Edit: That said, starting over in another profession with that much money in the bank probably isn't too bad either...assuming that he didn't blow it all already.
