Breakout Patriots Player of 2013 - Who Will It Be?

Offense: Shane Vereen
Defense: Dont'a Hightower

In the CFL? No, only the numerous youtube compilations. But everything I have read about his character has been positive. And had it not been for the USC medical nightmare, he would have been a very high pick.

He is our 1st round draft pick talent for this year.

I think I'm going to have a look at the YouTube videos of him. He is the player I'm most excited for.

Hightower will show us a McGinest type of LB play this year....he will be the best player on defense and will have 12 Sacks.

....you heard it here first

Since it's a dead part of the offseason, I figured I'd throw this out there to hear people's thoughts on who they think will be a player who emerges with a big season this year? Will it be Chandler Jones, Aaron Dobson, Jamie Collins or somebody else? Post your thoughts and why you think so in this thread

I think it will be Vereen. We saw a little bit of what he could bring out of the back field and catching the football. I think we are going to see alot of him this year

Brady.

This is the year he silences all the haters and solidifies his standing in NFL history with his 4th Lombardi.

Either that or Moe.

lol, haters will never be silenced. Even after Brady is gone, they will be even louder.

Chandler Jones is a guy I see taking a big step... but it wouldn't be that surprising if you watched him weeks 1-10 of his rookie year. The talent is clearly there.

I'll go with Vereen. A bigger role is there for the taking and he has some talent.

I think Wilson has proven smart; and has already demonstrated that he fits all those other requirements, so experience is all he needs. He has already driven Patrick Chung off the team. This is a pretty good pre-indicator of what will happen.

Surpassing a terrible safety who shouldn't be getting any playing time on any team in the NFL in the worst safety talent draught in NFL history is not saying much.

An improvement, no matter how small, is an improvement.

One inch may be the difference between winning and losing a Superbowl.

I predict a Breakout year for EVERYONE.

they all deserve it.

Chandler Jones, I could see him getting 10 to 15 sacks

This is actually a tough question, if given its due.

The second year starters have to become All-Pro to qualify. Jones, Dennard, et al are already poised for the normal, significant second year improvement. If they are anything less than significantly better than last year, it is a disappointment.

Rookies, by definition, can't have a "breakout" year because they don't have a history to dramatically and unexpectedly exceed.

Players with 5 or more years would have difficulty finding a next level to achieve, on the grounds that if they had it in them, we'd have seen it already. BB has found some gold in a few players from other teams that have become stars, of course.

And there has to a certain amount of surprise in this to qualify as well.

My favorite candidates: Donald Jones (working with Brady); Blount (wakes up); Francis; Cannon

Good points. I like Donald Jones too. Think he was a good signing. Still young, fast, strong...good size. Played with a non QB in Buffalo. Definitely has a chance to do some things here. Will be interesting to see the battle between the wideouts. You've got to like our depth there now (assuming Boyce and Dobson can contribute). You know we're going with Hern, Gronk, Amendola...but who is the 2nd WR in the base set? Could very well be Jones.

Chandler Jones. Love 2nd year players who looked awesome as rookies until they hit the rookie wall. Guy is going to be ready for 19 games this year.

Think Tom Brady from 2000 to 2001.

Regards,
Chris

I think it will be one of the second year guys or someone like Cannon or Vereen who will step into a larger role in year three.

Jones was already a candidate for DROY. So, for me, he has already had a breakout year. Dennard became a solid starter last year.

I've long ago stopped picking injured players like Dowling, Fletcher or Edelman.

My choice is Hightower. My hope is Tavon Wilson.

Edelman, 2 PR touchdowns, 1 rushing TD and 6 receiving TDs

Surpassing a terrible safety who shouldn't be getting any playing time on any team in the NFL in the worst safety talent draught in NFL history is not saying much.

Patrick Chung was and is an athletic Safety drafted in the second round, and a former starter. After Tevon pushed him off the team, he was signed by the Philadelphia Eagles. He is hardly a bum, but I don't think he was cerebral enough or a natural leader enough, to play Safety and more importantly anchor the Patriot's secondary. ;)
