Gronk going under 4TH TIME

Gronk will never be the same after this. This injury will linger for the rest of his career

I begrudgingly agree with this, both physically and mentally, he may never be the same. I doubt he plays with the same reckless abandon, doubt he will block like he used to. He reminds me so mych of Jeremy Shockey, it's almost eerie. Comes in like a monsoon, takes the football world by storm, and then because of his style of play, injuries pile on. First ankle surgery, and now 4 arm surgeries. And he's only 23.

I know the 4th surgery was supposed to happen anyway, but it doesn't make me feel good.

I said he'd probably be on PUP.

Maybe they can just take the plate out without replacing it. Those plates can cause constant pain and swelling. Maybe it's healed up enough so that another 4 to 5 months and it'll be 100% even without a plate.

At this point it'd be great if he plays at all for this season.

Jake Sudfeld time to step up!

And Ballard, I'm hoping he's fully healed from his knee injury. He may not be Gronk caliber, but he's a pretty good two-way TE (Blocking and receiving). With Brady as his QB, he will probably reach his alltime high in receptions (if Gronk misses significant time).

It's absolutely hilarious that people think this will effect Gronk mentally or physically going forward.

You guys do remember he had back surgery in '09? Back issues tend to be more of a problem then broken forearms. That didn't effect him one bit.

I hate to sound so... I don't know... meh on this. We won't know squat on this injury until they have to designate him PUP or DL or whatever the hell designation they have to give him. Until then, it's business as usual in foxboro: say nothing unless the league says we have to.

Like everyone else, I'd like to know what the hell is going on. They don't have to tell us, so they wont. That's part and parcel of being a fan of this team. Lack of information is the norm. It's frustrating, but it is what it is.

How often have you heard of broken forearms needing 4 surgeries ? This is slightly different.

Slightly different from WHAT?

If his bone is healed why does it take 10 weeks to recover from replacing the plate? Why is the plate needed except as a safety measure?

I know the report is that it's to replace the plate but I think it is to remove it and see if the infection is still there and if it is they take care of it right then and there.

It'll affect him because he won't be playing on it until it's healed. And that looks like a long way away now. At this point I think they have to err on the side of conservatism and actually let it heal 100%. No more breaks.

..........and 100% through the playoffs.

Per a M.D. relative, the real problem would be an infection in the bone.

From a normal one time freak break? I don't know why some of you have to act like there is nothing abnormal going on here.

Maybe we need a new forum for "The Sky is Falling" people. While it may for Gronk, we'll just have to wait and see. If he was so worried about the arm, maybe he'd not be "himself" and fool around with it. Either he's Gronk or he's not...still seems like the same kid to me.

While we're adding forums maybe one for BB and drafting called "The Emperor Has No Clothes".

Considering that he broke his arm twice and had an infection, there's not really anything wrong with four surgeries. If there's a fifth, then I'd start worrying a little.

Were people this worried back in 2008 when Brady had a second surgery on his knee to deal with an infection?

football STARTS in sept. it is now early may. some people just look for a black cloud.

So 4 is ok, 5 is worrying, and 4 surgeries should equal 2 surgeries on the worry scale.

The short answer is: Yes.

I guess the fact this is the surgery where the plate that has been in his arm for four months is being taken out is lost.

Well I wouldn't expect anything less from the doom and gloom crowd

Broken forearm, surgery, done. That's the norm.

not if the surgery requires a plate be installed during healing. Then the norm is to remove the plate at some point.

Thus the norm for a break, plate install, re-break, plate reinstall, heal, plate un-install

removing infections adds more procedures, whether the guy is dancing or not.

Four surgeries on one area in what, less than 18 months...yeah, I'm sure he'll be fine. He was supposed to be "fine" before the last break because bones only grow back stronger after breaks. How anyone can put a smiley face on this news is beyond belief. The best TE in football and clearly now the focal point of the offense sans Welker is now having ANOTHER surgery, and the fanboys say it is nothing to worry about...unbelievable...
