I see 3 main area we need to know before the draft

#1 Sign Asante long term. We need to get this resolved to know if he will sign with us or do we trade him and than draft to fill his void.

#2 WR questions. Is CJ hurt and will Brown be back? Most of us would like to see a little btter production in the WR's next year.

#3 Will Dillon be back? We need a Power back if not.

I think it will be if or how Brady's personal life will affect his game.

I doubt we sign him long term, it's just going to cost too much. I can see paying him the 8 mill to play this season b/c we have he $ and it gives us the luxury of drafting a CB and working him into the mix for next season.

Jackson being injured for any portion of the season would be a big blow. He would've been the answer to the wide receiver position next season, now they have to think about FAs and or the draft.

I am not sure I agree with you at all. While this new reprot puts a dent in the "Golden Boy" image, Brady has said for years that he is no Golden Boy.

If you honestly think (which I know you don't) that he is the first athlete to be in this situation and not be able to play ball because of it your crazy.

The situation is not ideal, and it is not the storybook we want, but this is pretty much standard life in the professional sports.

Brady is a pro at everything he does. This will be no different. BB kept his personal life out of it and Brady will do the same.

Now, to answer the question of the thread IMO the WR situation is the most concerning. I don't think Asante will hold out if we do not get him signed long term. Dillon should be fine, but not the end of the world if he is gone.

I love what Caldwell and Gafney did this year, and IMO the will carry the momentum, but that is 2 WR out of 5. I have no idea about Bam and not much hope for Knight. I am not convinced Brown will help too much as another year hasd passed.

It does come down to what BB knows and doesn't share. We can speculate all we want, but BB has the whole picture and will not say anything.

i dont know what all this buisness is about a power back. we got maroney in the first round. we didnt get him to share carries. with the exception of the fumble on the 1 yard line in the afc championship game, maroney had no problem punching it in on the goal line when given the chance. we'll be fine with maroney and faulk in on 3rd and long. and if you think we need a "big" guy for short distance then we still will have evens. let dillon go, it time for maroney to carry the load.

Now Brady will need to work harder because "he's got mouths to feed."

Our #1 priority before the draft is to get one or two good linebackers

who can cover tight ends adequately.

I hope we can re-sign Asante Samuel to a long term contract but also think

we have to keep him even for only one year. There is no other good

alternative.

If Chad Jackson has suffered a serious injury, we also have to address

the wide receiver positiion in free agency.

* So how are 3 things the Patriots #1 priority? -:) Right now on Feb 20th, I'd say it's this one. Today, FA hasn't started and the draft is weeks away so it's the only 1 they can deal with.

I agree with couple FA LBers....Jarret Johnson and London-Flecther....and FA WR Curtis or Welker....We need to know if it is our interest to sign long term woith Asante or draft high for CB or two....We all talk was is going to happen, but comes FA & draft BB & SP will leave our jaws below our knees....

I agree, if they did nothing else but sign a starting ILB the rest of the roster could be filled with there usual pile of veteran minimum FAs and JAGs. It is not sexy but it how they operate, after the draft another look at the FA pile combined with a possible trade will complete their roster.

PRE-DRAFT

1) sign or trade for a veteran LB
2) sign or trade for a veteran linebacker
3) sign or trade for a veteran TE

Theforem we need to know
1) who we signed at LB and
2) who we signed at TE

Plan to get a WR who can spread the field for TB. We might have built for the future by getting the #1 for Deion, but the move hurt us this year and I don't think it's completely unreasonable to suggest that we would have gone to and won the SB otherwise.

Plan to replace him if we conclude that we won't meet Asante's demands.

Plan to get faster at Linebacker.

Find out whether Dillon's going to return and plan to pick up another RB if he isn't.
