Shouldn't we transition tag Graham?

Doesn't this tag allow the pats to match any offer?

Can't use the transition tag once you use the franchise tag, unless (I believe) the Pats withdraw their tender on Samuel.

Nobody is going to use the transition tag until they fix the poison pill problem, anyway.

I've yet to get a definitive answer as to whether you can use a tag more than once in a year. Lots of opinions ("it stands to reason that blah blah blah") for both possibilities:

only-one-use-per-year, or
as-many-times-a-year-as-you-want-but-only-one-use-at-a-time,

but no one seems to know the facts.

An example of a team using two tags in one playing year would put this question to rest right away. Anyone know of such a case?

Graham will be missed for his blocking, but Dave Thomas, Garret Mills, and Big Ben... we wll not be hurt at this position, and I think CB was more important, as you have seen in the past.. LB and Wr should be our focus in FA and the Draft..

Each club is permitted one franchise designation in any year of the Collective Bargaining Agreement. If a franchise player signs a multiyear contract with his current club between February 23 and July 15, the club retains its franchise player designation for the following league year. After July 15, any contract signed by a franchise player can only be for one year. Also, a club may designate a transition player in lieu of a franchise player in any year when the franchise designation is available

Miguel - who relys on the CBA and the NFL for his FA information

Miguel just nailed it.

If Samuel were to magically sign a long term deal before the 22nd, would the Patriots be able to pull the Tag then designate it on Graham?

I don't believe so.

There is effectively no such thing as the transition tag anymore due to poison pills which the league and union have not fixed.

If we tranisiton tag Graham, all a team that wants him has to do is insert a clause in his contract stating he gets a guarenteed 50 million dollars for playing 3 regular season games in Massachusetts and we can't match.
