A couple of beat writers see potential in UDFA T.J. Moe:

“It’s a 100 percent fit for him, no doubt,” Hill said on Tuesday. “I know they have Amendola, and Edelman back. I know they drafted a couple of outside guys. But I think (their style of offense) gives him a great chance. What they’re going to find out, once they tell him to do something, he’s one-million percent coachable. He’s a special guy in a lot of ways. They’ll be able to see it fairly quickly. He’s going to be out there until they kick him off the field.”

The only way he doesn’t resemble Welker is stature. Moe is 5-foot-11 and 204 pounds, so he’s bigger than both Welker and Amendola.

Let's end on this one. Always fun to predict. A lot of hype around Missouri WR T.J. Moe, so I'll go with him for now. But always good to wait until practice until making those calls.

I think he makes the roster.

In the few Missouri games on TV here he stood out and he seems the sort of player who's going to put in the hard work and get a connection with Brady.

Doesn't look especially big, fast, or elusive, but he definitely runs good routes, has great hands, and is a willing blocker. I doubt he'll be able to get open against NFL defenders as quickly/reliably as Welker did--and maybe not at all--but I wouldn't be shocked if he made the team. Wouldn't bet on it either, though.

I'd hate to see him make the roster over guys that we drafted and signed to bigger contracts. That would just show, once again, that we don't know how to evaluate the WR position. Why have scouts then. Just sign as many undrafted receivers as we can and hope one of them sticks.

He's obviously not making it over Dobson or Boyce. But it wouldn't be a shock if he beat out Jones or Jenkins.

So you're not for a meritocracy where an unexpected talent is allowed to compete and win but instead you stick with the now irrelevant past college resume vs results in the new very different NFL competitive environment. What's sadder still is that you'd be employable in many dysfunctional NFL franchises.

If he shows he's better than everybody on the team, so be it. Welker was cut by his first NFL, and wound up possibly being the best slot receiver ever. Same with Amendola, cut by his first NFL team. Hopefully, if Moe shows that he's really good, the Pats don't make that same mistake. I don't wanna see Moe becoming a great NFL receiver on another team.

Really, I don't think we need a 3rd-string slot receiver. We're fine at that position, we need outside threats. Wouldn't mind him on practice squad since one of our other slot guys is sure to hurt himself, but not on the 53-man roster.

His numbers aren't overly impressive. I know that doesn't tell the tale always and I'm sure he's a good player. But I seriously doubt we'll have room for him barring an injury to DA or JE. Not a bad guy to have in the mix though.

You read the whole post, right? Like I said, practice squad. We don't need to take up a roster spot with another slot receiver. Why not just have a 2nd string fullback on the active roster? That's a good use of space, right?

Well he went undrafted by the Patriots because BB had Buchanan and Beauharnais higher than him on their draft board. And went undrafted by other teams because again he is a player that suffered from who he played for and that he was a slot receiver on a running team.

Dude had a sophomore season of 92 rec 1045 yards and 6 TD with Blaine Gabbert as his QB.

It's the same story every time with NFL writers: The white slot receiver always has to be a perfect fit for the Patriots just because of Wes Welker's success here.

If T J Moe, who is a quick butvery slow, slot reciver, makes it, it will most likely be on the PS for a year. The great slot receivers spent a year or two bouncing around before they acclimated to the NFL and its passing schemes. Why would Moe be any different?

Does "making it" include the PS for an UDFA? I would think so...

When you get that late in the draft, sometimes when your choices are "Player X is more talented" vs. "Player Y is more likely to be taken before we can sign him as an UDFA", the decision is to take Player Y and take your chances on signing Player X as an UDFA.

Along those lines, when BB called Gary Guyton to say the Patriots wanted to sign him, Guyton had one big question for BB: "Why'd you draft Bo Ruud instead of me?"

You're right, though, if he obviously outperforms Edelman, Jones, and Jenkins, he should stick around over them.

I just can't imagine a receiving corps of Amendola, Dobson, Boyce, Moe and Slater. Three rookies, a special-teamer and an injury-prone slot receiver. If that's the case, we may still need to call up Lloyd.

You say that like you are sure there is gonna be a 1st string fullback. If there is a choice between 1st & 2nd string fullbacks or carrying Ridley, Vereen, Blount, Bolden and Washington, I choose the latter.
