And there it is for all to see. The debunking of this myth that The Patriots perennially s*cked until the Parcells/Bledsoe regime and the Pat Patriot era was one big long joke.
Reference years 1976 thru 1988. I count 11 winning records, ONE losing season, and one .500 campaign. That's a strong 13 year run.
Problem was, the Shula/Griese & Shula/Marino Dolphins were in the same division, hence all of those second place finishes you see on the graph in that period.
It's like all anyone wants to point to for the Pat Patriot era s*cking is the Rod Rust/**** McPherson early 90's teams. That's a tiny slice of Pats history.

Of course the early teams played a shorter season with ties, but winning percentage evens that out. 5 of 6 winning seasons starting in 61, with a 10-3 and two 9-4s (equivalent) to 12-4 more or less.

The Pats actually put a damn competitive team on the field in the seat of the pants days. Great four man line, fine QB in Parilli, good balanced team. Two time coach of the year in Holovak.

Of course after Holovak they nose dived worse than they ever did. With billy Sullivan spending more time in court and banks than with the team, he hired a coach with mental problems I'm guessing he didn't even interview. Rush was the OC for the Joe Namath Jets, how could he lose?:bricks:

Eh. The regular season graphic supports this stance, but go look at the playoff graphic. Huge difference.

With that being said? Damn. I never realized just how barren it was. Only 10 playoff appearances total...before Belichick/Brady. Since then? Yup, we've gotten 10 more since '00. Crazy imbalance.

True, but don't forget that:
- for their first nine years (60-68) only two teams made the playoffs
- for the next nine years (69-77) only eight teams made the playoffs
- for the next twelve years (78-89) only ten teams made the playoffs
- it was not until 1990 that twelve teams made the playoffs



While it is true that half the playoff years have happened under B&B and 70% of the years that the team made the playoffs have come since 1994, it is also worth noting that more teams make the playoffs than they did back in those early years.

Terrific. I love infographics.

One suggested graphic improvement - is there a way to make the four Super Bowl losses more prominent? They are barely visible. For me, the Patriots seven Super Bowl appearances are what make the franchise one of the NFL's most storied ones, and the Brady/Belichick era with five appearances and three victories (among other things) set them apart.

Also, the playoff standings graphic looks off. The '01 Pats were 1st in the division. The 2002 Pats were 2nd.

I noticed that after posting! I went on NFL.com to get the standings and wrote 2001 down wrong but 2002 does say 3rd! Bloody website!
