Worry About the jets in free agency

It is what it is! Lots of teams have a lot of cap room like the 49ers. I don't worry more about the jets than any other team with lots of cap room. Besides, we've got lots of cap space too.

I will go on record as saying that the Jets will pull several moves over the next few months that will pi$$ off the Patriots and their fans.

Key weaknesses: RB/DL/OLB/CB

RB: the only player who could threaten the Pats is the Burner from SD, a RFA and would cost a #1 pick. A. Green is injury prone and close to 30 and not much of an upgrade over L. Washington/C. Houston. IMO L. Washington has starting potential anyway. Not sure this is as big a need as some make it, since Houston is a decent back up as well.

DL. The DT free agent class is very thin. Maybe they could get Keith Traylor as a NT for a year, or try to steal Tommy Kelly from Oakland as a RFA. But not much that could upgrade the team. Should target Adam Carriker and trade up with #25 and #37 to get him if necessary. Carriker has Richard Seymour talent and could transform the Jets' defense.

OLB: The Jets could probably drive up the price for A. Thomas at a minimum. Mangini would love to have him as much as BB. If not, Jarvis Moss/Spencer/Woodley/Moses at #25 or #37 seem possible.

CB: With Samuel off the market, only Nate Clements/Dre Bly are really appealing candidates. The Pats have been toasting Clements for years. He is an undisciplined player who struggles in zone coverage. Dre Bly is not the player he once was. The draft is stocked with 2nd rd CB talent. Who knows, maybe Revis or Hall fall to #25 because of speed issues.

Sleeper: I could see the Jets spending big bucks on Daniel Graham to develop a nasty physical attitude on offense. This would be a great move for them IMO.

I would not be surprised if the Jets end up with Adalius Thomas and Daniel Graham, at a minimum.

I think you are forgetting the $9M or so of Noodle's contract that was incentivized to drop his cap from $12M to $3M last summer when they didn't think he would be their starter for the season. That bill comes due in 2007 and the league hasn't yet accounted for achieved incentives (or LTBE savings like we banked or NLTBE expenses) in the recently released available cap estimates. That alone will lower the JETS available cap space by almost a third.

Not to mention our LTBE savings will cover three quarters of that franchise tag we just tendered before cutting into our initially estimated $26M.

Yep like they have for the last 10 years now, picking up all our players. I think there was a time when the Jets where all ex-pats.

I think i'd be pretty tempted to give up that first rounder for Turner. You can never have too many quality RB's. And I think the Jets have none at this point.

the perfect fit for him is in Denver or in TN. Both teams lead in TE receptions almost every yr and both have TE needs. Kinney career is likely over now with microfracture surgery and troupe has been a dissapointment. Denver has Scheffler but no one else. Both of these team love the 2 TE set. The darkhorse for Graham has to be the Saints. They have no had a TE since Irv Smith and he even sucked. With their WR and QB and running game Graham could make the probowl because he'll always be single covered by a LB.

Jets have a ton of room to maneuver. All they have to do is decide whether they want to keep DRob and his contract needs to be redone. His number for 07 is astouding and can easily come down awfully quick.

If making the Pro Bowl and getting all kinds of stats is what Graham wants, he should probably move on to the NFC. In the AFC you have Antonio Gates and Tony Gonzalez, who are almost always locks to get in. In Seattle or New Orleans he could put up some serious numbers for Pro Bowl consideration, but in the AFC it would have to be nothing short of a record setting year.

I think it is too bad the Pats didn't use him as much in the passing game, he has the talent and we've all seen what he can do when given the opportunity (does anyone forget his 50-some-odd yard rumbling, leaping screen pass for a touchdown against ATL last year? Or any of his 20 yard snags down the seam?)

If he wasn't such a good blocker maybe he would have had those opportunities, instead of being forced to help out the line all his career.

What makes them more of a threat than the otherteams with lots of cap room is that Mangini wants to install exactly the same defense we have here so logically he wants to go after exactly the same players we have and want here.

That would be very scary. Maroney/Turner would be an amazing backfield.
