Really not sure if he can handle being a DE. Rather have him as a LB. Interesting to see what this means for Spikes and Ninkovich.

Jamie Collins plays an LB position that nobody else on our team can play currently. I don't expect much to change next year, other than Jamie Collins coming in on 3rd downs and obvious passing downs.

But the season after next when Spikes is gone (rookie deal) I think we'll have an LB corp of Collins at Weak side, Mayo at MLB and Hightower at Strong side. Ninkovich will have a spot on this team for the foreseeable future. He's a versatile player but eventually due to aging and younger players getting better he will become a depth player at DE and Strong side LB.

SackSEER likes Jamie Collins a lot. Collins has a SackSEER Rating of 97.7 percent, which means that, when not controlling for draft position, Collins is SackSEER’s eighth-favorite prospect ever. Even after controlling for projected draft position, SackSEER favors Collins to collect more sacks than probable first-round picks Jarvis Jones and Dion Jordan, as well as all of the edge rushers who were available in the 2012 NFL Draft.

Collins had a fantastic Combine workout -— a 4.64 forty, a 41.5-inch vertical leap, and an edge rusher-record 139-inch broad jump. Collins, however, is not just a workout warrior. Collins’ projection is also buoyed by his passes defensed -— Collins had 18 passes defensed in 52 games, including three interceptions.

4 pressures?

4 pressures?

That number probably isn't right. But what's the best about Jamie Collins is he isn't a pass rusher first. He's an all-around player that can rush the passer, cover and stop the run. He can also play from a 2 or 3 point stance but I imagine we'll be using him mostly from a 2 point. Akeem Ayers is the best comparison I can think of right now.

Hey look, he can rush the passer!! :D

Athletic DE/LB who we can send in on passing downs.
Question, can Collins also cover or is he solely a rush backer/end?

well, apparently he played safety as a freshman.

although, the following year he got bumped to lb......

I'm kinda excited by this kid. To be honest I'm just glad they drafted an outside rusher of some kind, but from all I'm reading and hearing, this kid could be a real player on the outside. Let's hope he is.

I like the pick. Very disruptive player. Seems to get fatigued as games progress, but that should improve with NFL conditioning. He's quick and explosive. Gets absolutely thrown off the ball on some run plays, but he also makes a lot of Tackles for loss.

I wonder how often he will be able to get on the field this year. He'll be behind Ninkovich, Chandler Jones, and even Hightower.

BB went the small school route this year, looking for a diamond in the rough. So Miss and Marshall. :rocker:

I found some more info on Collins.

Collins made the honor roll last semester at Southern Mississippi with a GPA over 3.0. He was only one of 78 student-athletes to accomplish that feat.
No wonder BB liked him.

Collins ran for more than 1,200 yards and passed for another 1,000 yards in 2007 while leading Franklin High School to the Mississippi State championship game (via Scout.com).
Played RB and QB in High School

2009 (Freshman): 13 games, 47 tackles, 28 solo, three for loss, two sacks and one forced fumble.

2010 (Sophomore): 13 games, 76 tackles, 49 solo, 2.5 for loss, two interceptions, 2.5 sacks and one touchdown.

2011 (Junior): 14 games, 98 tackles, 19.5 for loss, one interception, 6.5 sacks, eight quarterback hurries and one touchdown.

2012 (Senior): 12 games, 92 tackles, 66 solo, 20 for loss and 10 sacks.

Tackles for Loss stick out in his Senior and Junior campaigns.

Measurables

Height: 6'3"

Weight: 250 pounds

Arm Length: 33.75"

Hand Size: 9.75"

Combine Results

Broad Jump: 139.0" (best among linebackers)

40-Yard Dash: 4.64

20-Yard Shuttle: 11.55

Three-Cone Drill: 7.10

Vertical Jump: 41.5" (best among linebackers)

Bench Press: 19 reps at 225

Vert and Broad jumps were best at his position in the entire Combine, and would be considered elite any year. Shows explosive lower body. Should have a great first step.

I think getting Collins and Ryan for our #29 was a good deal.

Getting Dobson at #59 was OK, fine if he was Josh's choice.

Harmon was a 6th or 7th rounder picked in the 3rd. In any case, there were probably 100 better choices.

Literally lol'd at this post, competition do you even understand it? Why wasn't Greene a top 5 pick if this chart is all that matters? Objectively of course.

Joker you rat b@st3rd! Stop taking away the fun for the doom and gloom brigade! You know this guy isn't and can never be Wes Welker!! :D

Sure, college numbers don't mean a thing versus stepping on an NFL field and demonstrating you can get it done. But since Collins has no NFL experience and we can only go off of numbers/speculate -- stating that blatantly obvious -- thanks for posting the chart. It makes me think "Yes!". Those are impact numbers. IF he can translate that to the NFL, we not only got ourselves a playmaker, we got ourselves a playmaker of the mold we haven't had in quite a while.
Again, IF he translates to the NFL, I like how the LB position is shaping up over the next couple of years. Mayo, Hightower, Collins, Spikes, Ninko.....

I think his role this year will be at OLB bumping Hightower inside and Spikes off on passing downs. Can rush and drop into coverage.

and we'll take that all the way to the bank...THE most glaring deficiency from the playoffs...zero edge pressure from our LB's...zero coverage of TE's. This isn't a pick to put total reliance on while you rebuild a terrible team...this is a nice addition to a team that was IN the Super Bowl two years ago, and in the AFC Championship game at home last season. Ninkovich did zero off the edge against the Ravens....I'm hoping this kid with his speed and power will be able to hit a gawk like Flacco and bring his eyes down back in the pocket....and with his speed he can cover the Pittas of the league on 3rd downs and yardage.

ooops...wacky nutcase boy gets smashed in his crybaby mouth again...

FWIW, I don't remember where I saw it, but I know that there was some statistical analysis on the web last night that suggested Collins had the lowest percentage of missed tackles of any linebacker who went to the combine this year at only 3%.

If that's accurate, then I'm sure that's another reason BB liked him.

Joker is owning this thread, as always.

The only people I've seen trashing this pick are some of the Chicken Little's who infest this place. Every analyst, scout and draftnik I've read absolutely loves the kid.
