Would these guys push the team from very good to superb?

Woodson as a Safety that can play some CB.
Abraham as depth at DE and for sub packages.

This may mean the end of the Steve Gregory and Jake Bequette era but who cares, lets win some trophies.. big ones.

In year 1 no draftee will provide as much production as these two veterans. It is just they kind of short term thinking fan boys like me can indulge.

Enjoy the draft.

I still think that at some point this off season - perhaps even as late as after training camp has opened - the Pats will sign either John Abraham or Dwight Freeney.

Woodson is intriguing, but my guess is that the Pats are content with what they have (plus an obligatory UDFA), and pass on him.

As for Bequette, I would be surprised if they give up on him this quickly - though that could certainly change if he shows the coaching staff no progress on OTAs.

I wouldn't write off Jake Bequette just yet. The guy is very talented, and may just surprise those who have written him off. I wouldn't be shocked if Bequette has a very good year for the Pats, including 5+ sacks.

They should sign both those guys. Would add much needed depth at 2 positions they need help at for cheap.

Both players are just situational players at this point in their careers. Neither is going to push a team over the edge, and Woodson especially was particularly ineffective last year. Abraham may be worth a look at the minimum, but expecting him to be anything more than a rotation guy is asking too much.

The Bequette situation is intriguing.
I think given the lack of football in year 1 things won't change much in 2013.

I hope I'm wrong.

I am not as sold on Abraham as i was a month or so ago after hearing Holley talk about him being high maintenance, but i would still take him and i would love to see them go after Woodson as well, same goes for Freeney, but it will really depend upon what happens this weekend. If they get Werner in the first, which i doubt, then I wouldn't go after a pass rusher in the rest of free agency and would go interior OL as well as Woodson or another body for the secondary

The reason these guys haven't signed anywhere already is because they don't want to sign on the cheap. They may ultimately take less than they want but i doubt any go for vet minimum.

I wood have liked Woodson brought in and moved to slot corner but we re-signed Arrington at a significant price.

Woodson is completely shot. He's done. Nothing better than a #3 safety at best.

Abraham wants way too much money.

The end of the Jake Bequette era?! We just drafted him a year ago. He was considered raw. I think he needed a year in the weight room.

If they were still game changers, the teams who remain with some big cap space would have signed them up by now.

They are on the horizons of their respective careers and as with all vets, its risky to whether they can contribute enough to make it worthwhile.

I think Woodson would be the better of the two if one had to choose

pats will draft a DE first the more and more i think of it...aka no abraham...never thought he was coming here to begin with

Unless there's a money/guaranteed money issue or they're grabbing a safety high up in the draft, I don't see any reason not to bring Woodson in. They've already gone the Geritol route with A. Wilson, after all.

I'd still very much like Abraham while focusing on WR/DB in the draft. Woodson i was intrigued by but i honestly don't have any idea how effective he still is.

I was thinking about the same thing, but with the opposite result: since the Pats already signed Adrian Wilson, they would be less likely to sign another veteran in the twilight of his career, rather than more likely to do so.

It would mark the only time that Belichick gave up on a high (rounds 1-3) pick after only one season. I highly doubt they are even close to giving up on Jake Bequette at this point in time.

As far as the 2 players you propose--they are both likely asking for too much money right now, and Woodson hasn't drawn the slightest interest from anyone which is odd but may be telling of something that we aren't aware of.

news is denver is now trying to get a deal done with freeney...but it sounds like the pats have either moved on from abraham..or still asking too much $$

Yeah, I agree with your previous thoughts. I'm not holding my breath on either of them. Just because we brought them in for a visit doesn't necessarily mean that one of them is definitely coming here.

Of course Abraham may lower his demands eventually, and that is likely what they are waiting for. It also doesn't mean he's a lock to come here like many think either.
