Is there an impact receiver in the first round where they are selecting or where they can even trade up to? My understanding is that this class is deep, but there is no real studs and the guys they can get in the second round aren't much different than the ones they can get in the first unless someone falls.
I still rather see the Pats take d-line with their first pick. Looks like the quality of players drop off more after the first round guys are selected than the drop off with WRs. I think more pass rushers are as big or bigger need than WR. Certainly more than the secondary which I don't think needs more than depth other than maybe at safety.
Unless somebody unexpected drops to 29 where the value is too high then I expect it'll be a WR. I still think they could trade into the second and then double dip. Ending up with Wheaton and Patton for instance would be great.

There's going to be quality receivers there at the beginning of the second round, if the team can pull the trigger on a trade with a team that has an early second round pick. After that, you'll have a lot of teams that have needs at the WR position (including the Jets) picking. If the team trades down, it should address the DL with it's second 2nd round pick. Not it's first.

We can handle it. At one point everyone seemed to be on board with the idea of getting jonathan cooper. BB will have to try really hard to piss us off this year.:rocker:
Cooper would be a coup if picked at 29, I think. Would be really cool to see where the Patriots have the OL prospects graded out. How do they grade Cooper/Warmack versus DeCastro versus Mankins, for instance?
From Mankins to Vollmer to Soldier on down the line, they don't grade / pick along the same lines as the mainstream draft talkers. I don't recall many people mocking those guys to the Patriots. It's hard to argue with their success on early OL picks, and even OL picks in general except a few 5th + rounders.
It is the worst idea Bedard's had yet. What happens to newspaper reporters when they go to Sports Illustrated? Is there a hookah set up in the SI lobby that HR makes you suck on a few times before they show you to your computer? Peter King, once one of the best football writers anywhere, killed so many brain cells at SI that now he's a babbling idiot and can't keep up with most of the people on this messageboard.
Bedard understands too well that the Patriots are awful at selecting receivers in the draft. The two best receivers of the Belichick era - Welker and Moss -came via trade for draft picks (Welker for a 2nd and Moss for a 4th.)
Do that again. Trade the #2 for some mid-career stud who they know is smart and can grasp the playbook.
Please do not draft some college kid who will be overwhelmed from day one, again.
