Well, considering the front page has become the political forum and football news has died down, why not have a draft thread on the main forum one week before the event.

This is the second year in a row the Pats have gone into the draft with a massive hole (last year, safety), will we meet WR in the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, not at all?

Who do you find more annoying, Kiper or McShay? Or do you just watch NFLN during the draft instead?

Who will be the next Jets bust at #9?

Discuss anything draft related to get our minds back on football and off these tragedies.

For those that are interested, there is a fun (albeit flawed) draft game in the draft forum. Here is what I came up with, as an example of how the team could possibly trade down and still fill positions of need in a very deep draft...

Your Picks:
Round 2 Pick 8 (TENN): Datone Jones, DE, UCLA (A)
Round 2 Pick 29 (S.F.): Da'Rick Rogers, WR, Tennessee Tech (C-)
Round 3 Pick 8 (TENN): Darius Slay, CB, Mississippi State (A)
Round 3 Pick 31 (S.F.): Ryan Swope, WR, Texas A&M (C)
Round 3 Pick 32 (BALT): Bennie Logan, DT, LSU (A)
Round 4 Pick 32 (BALT): Marcus Lattimore, RB, South Carolina (A)
Round 5 Pick 32 (BALT): John Lotulelei, OLB, UNLV (B+)
Round 7 Pick 20: Blaize Foltz, OG, TCU (B-)
Round 7 Pick 29: Emmett Cleary, OT, Boston College (A)

Does anyone know who is on the NFLN coverage ?

I LOVE Mike Mayock, Daniel Jeremiah and Charles Davis and would love it if those three were hosting the coverage but I haven't heard. I know Mayock is usually on but Jeremiah is new to the Path to the Draft coverage this year.

Minus Jones, I'd be damn happy with this.

Yeah but you'd have to expect that Slay is not going to end up in the third round. That's a pipe dream, IMO. But I filled both flanker and split end positions and I figure that even if Swope would be a miss in this offense, he'd still have what I like to call the "Brandon Tate effect", where defenses know that he's not going to hurt them too much, but his elite speed still dictates that at least one safety needs to remain deep to prevent him from blowing the top off the defense.

Jones isn't my favorite DE, personally. I like Werner and Okafor, but both were gone when I came up.

As I Cane it pains me to say this...but I would love for us to snag Werner. Love that guy. And who can deny how awesome it'd be to have a hulking German on each line?

I'm a Gator, so it also pains me to say that I love, love, LOVE Werner. Dude is a beast and he's only going to get better the more he keeps learning the game. But I don't see any way he makes it past the Giants.

What I don't get. Virtually every draft book I have seen written prior to the Combine have Werner as the #1 DE on the board. Now everyone have him going in the late 20s. Did he really do that bad at the Combine? He isn't a guy who was going to do well in the Combines anyway since he is not known for his speed.

He seems like a perfect fit for the Pats to start opposite Jones on the LDE spot. Hopefully he is still there at 29, but the Broncos might draft him at 28.

Personally, I think d-line is the pick in the first round. The WR position is too deep and there isn't a huge difference between what you can get in the first and the second at that position.

Why do the Giants always get all the good pass rushers, damnit!

Jones at RDE and Werner at LDE is my dream of dreams...time for a cold shower.

I didn't think that he performed worse than expected at the combine, but he's also one of my binkies so I might not be the best guy to ask. If he falls to us, I would hope that we don't trade out of the first. He and Jones on opposite ends of the DL would give quarterbacks nightmares. And, as I said, Werner is still learning the game. That said, I would be shocked if he made it past the Giants. He is pretty much exactly what they are looking for.

I can't believe Werner is dropping like a rock, I'd love to see him play opposite Jones. He may be an even better prospect than Jones.

My dream draft would be

Tavon Austin in the 1st round
Darius Slay 2nd round
Da'Rick Rogers 3rd
LB 7th
OL 7th

That would be some great speed from Austin and Slay, and good size from Rogers. Whoever we get in the 7th round is as good as the UFA's we sign after the fraft.

I really think we trade out of the 1st round, and get an extra 2nd and a 4th.

I don't know. I don't see the Giants having DE as a huge need. Their o-line is a mess. And they need much more help in the back seven of the defense than the front four.

The Giants love drafting d-linemen. So it is possible, but I would think they go o-line with their first pick.

BELICHICK FAN, I am with you about Mayock. I absolutely love him, especially in this element (Draft coverage). No doubt, he will be hosting the event as he did last year and will be there on set on the NFL Network for all 3 days of coverage.

Here's how I feel regarding DE.

Ansah-He will be a freak/stud in the NFL. He'll go top 5 and wouldn't be surprised if he won DROY even though he's raw.

Werner-He'd be a great pick at 29 if he lasted there. I agree on the potential Jones-Werner duo, but he's not lasting past 20 IMO.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Carradine-Some people like him more than Werner, some people find him overrated. IBBWT if we took him at 29, I wouldn't be upset.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
The rest of the top DE class (D. Jones, Hunt, Moore) I find overrated and mediocre, none of them offering an upgrade over Ninkovich IMO.

So if Werner were to fall to 29 then go DE, otherwise trade down or really consider Keenan Allen.

I agree that they should be building up their back end, but that's never been their MO. They've always built the DL first to keep the pass rush active. Can't blame them, either. It's been a large part in them winning two Super Bowls in the last 6 years. Considering Ansah will probably be gone by the time they pick, I see them taking Werner. IF Werner makes it past them and somehow falls to us (which I'm telling you right now is very unlikely to happen), I don't want the team to trade out of the first round. If he doesn't, I'd welcome the team trading back.

They did draft Prince Amukamura a couple of years back in the first round. So it isn't a precedent for them to draft a DB in the first round. I do agree though that they believe in building in the trenches.

Mayock is the best one on there. I think it's going to be Mayock, Eisen, faulk :puke: and Mariucci. Just a guess though.

He would make for a small strong side defensive end. Might be better off flipping them. I feel like as Jones continues to grow into his frame he might be a better fit on the strong side.
