Steelers match offer sheet retain RFA WR Emmanuel Sanders

I had a feelin 2.5 was a tad low. Kind if wished it started at 3mill per to really take Pitt out of the mix.

With that said, as we all know, this draft is WR heavy so we have some options. Plus having that 3rd rounder will keep the draft interesting on Day 2.

Brandon Lloyd I hope gets a phone call from us soon.

I like Sanders but I'm a bit relieved; I wasn't huge on spending a 3rd round pick on a one year deal (no I don't buy that they had a long term deal worked out).

What makes every one think that the team evaluates veteran WRs better than they do rookies? Look at Ocho, Joey Galloway, Doug Gabriel, Donald Hayes and to some extent Stallworth.

Welker, Moss

When you selectively omit data, conclusions are suspect

I'm curious to see if Lloyd is Plan B.

Well, it's true that Lloyd gave the Patriots 911yds. But, it's kinda strange that he has not visited any NFL team since his release.

This may in fact be Plan B...

Re-signing Lloyd isn't plan B. It would have to be plan X, as in undetermined value of X. Hopefully the solution would find a different value than last year because 2012's D is next to F for failure.

here's a guess - say hello to Devery Henderson...

And coach may have also asked Lloyd to take a break and get some rest, stay in the area, and leave your phone nearby.

I have no problems with bringing Lloyd back. I think he'd do well here in his second year.

so..it WAS Colonel Mustard in the library with the candlestick...glad THIS "mystery" has been solved....now for Metallica's latest hit...EXIT SANDERSMAN

Right, this team as constituted has no need for a 900 yd WR

Let's see. The competition for reps would be from Jones, Edelman and Jenkins. Yeah, I think Lloyd would do fine. And if ALL of these players played better than Lloyd this year (and last) so much the better. Lloyd provides a reliable target who knows the system.

My point was that sometimes you hit, some times you miss. You say Welker, Moss in FA and one could say Branch, Givens in the draft.

Some around here think that a FA WR would be more of a sure thing than one in the draft. I don't think that's the case.

The hate for Lloyd on this site is comical. You would think after Ocho, Galloway, and Holt which were all total failures that people would worship the guy.

Oh yeah, I forgot, I am on a site with a bunch of chicken little whiners who know nothing about football. It better to just piss on players who dont meet their unrealistic expectations.

Any any poster who thought Lloyd was going to put up moss numbers (which we seem to have a few) is a moron.

I'm actually curious if its Victor Cruz. Maybe you take a shot at the the lesser Sanders first to save money and compensation you see better overall value and if that falls through you pull the trigger on Cruz. Just the way we timed the Sanders deal makes me wonder.

I think it's unfair to lump Torry Holt with Ocho and Galloway. He was injured and released before he took any meaningful snaps.

If Lloyd returns to Gillette, I fear he will go full Rain Man

True but my point is that it was a failure regardless of the circumstances. Lloyd was certainly decent. And considering finding WRs that can pickup our system is a challenge, I will take the decent guy with system experience any day.

Add Lloyd to what we have and perhaps draft someone, we are fine.

I didn't think he really did much better than Johnson did. I just think the injuries to Gronk, Hernandez, Edelman forced Brady to send 130 balls his way and of which he didn't do crap with in my eyes. I didn't expect Moss results I actually didn't like the signing from the beginning.

So the Pats are going to go from giving $2.5M and a third for Sanders to giving $10M a year and a first for Cruz? I see way too big of a value discrepancy for there to be any correlation.

I'm actually quite happy about this. Never understood the hype about Sanders. Hated the move when we made it, glad it didn't happen. Prefer to take a chance on a rookie like Da'Rick Rogers and Ryan Swope if they are a available in round 3, or my binkie Aaron Dobson.

All of that certainly diddnt help and injuries cost us. Unfortunately with all that Lloyd wasnt a guy to carry the team in that situation, but again he was not paid to be that guy.

He is a sold complimentary piece. With AH and Gronk never coming off the field and DA, we need some other pieces. I think BL is a good compliment to them.
