Rumor: Pats seeking to trade RB Jeff Demps for draft pick

Not PUP but the Did Not Report list

Unfortunately, he can show up at any time, even after Game 1.

Belichick doesn't want a part-timer. Besides, we just signed a kick returner, and a punt returner. We now have two 3rd down backs.

We've moved on. If someone wants to give us a 6th or 7th, fine. Otherwise, I look for him to be released.

Could there be some way to keep him on PUP until the track season is finished? That way he's not on the 53 until November. Just costs Kraft cash.

You simply can't be a part time football player in todays nfl.

His commitment is a question mark to be sure, but the track thing may not work out and to me it looks like he has more speed and game-breaking ability than we would likely find in a low round pick who is unlikely to make the team anyway. We are a short on play makers.
Who is we?
The Patriots have been the 4th, 10th and 12th highest scoring teams of ALLTIME the last 3 years.

Its' a fairly well known fact around the New England areas, that when a player signs to play for the Patriots his value dramatically increases. Proof is that Brady character. 7th rounder for Demps, surely you jest.

Sure. But I never said the offense has not been good. Our big playmaker is under center, and then TE (when he is healthy). Demps has scary speed and can make guys miss, and is a threat from anywhere on the field. He brings a dimension that is not currently on the roster.

He's willing to miss training camp and as many as 5 games each season to run track, and the size he'll be at when he gets done sprinting isn't going to be sufficient to hold up as a football player - and that's for a guy who's smaller than Danny Woodhead to begin with. Moreover, he's asking for special treatment when he has yet to play a meaningful snap in the NFL. I can't imagine the Patriots getting anything in return for him - I can't even imagine him playing in the NFL, really - but they clearly are letting the agent seek a trade so they can try to get something for nothing.

As for the roster, the Patriots just signed one of the league's best kick returners, and Demps wasn't even a full-time return man in college. Vereen is plenty explosive at the running back position to make any statement about a lack of playmakers there ridiculous... and he has prototypical NFL size for a running back, as well.

Like the Salas deal, perhaps we can get a 2015 7th to replace the one we lost. Decent deal for both sides and he's not in the Division.

I'm a little disappointed. We never got to see if he could turn the corner -literally or figuratively. :p

We have playmakers throughout the roster. I'm get that Demps has talent, but we have Washington returning kicks, Edelman returning punts and Vereen out of the backfield that can bring and have brought that dimension.
Your comment was that we lack playmakers and I vociferously disagree.

Good point. People forget that Edelman is a historically good punt returner because his presence on the field is always so spotty. If he can stay healthy, there's certainly no need for competition at that position.

Eh, trading Demps for a 7th would be pointless. I'd rather just keep him.

you would rather keep a part time player who is more focused on running track, then getting a 7th?

I would say jeff demps is about as untradable as Tebow. Everyone knows demps has commited to track over the NFL and the patriots are not interested in part time players.

I'd like to see a straight up trade demps for Tebow, and convert tebow to fullback

Learn critical thinking...

1) Pats GM picked him up for 0 (that's zero) draft picks

2) Since that time, Demps has shown preferential interest in track vs preparing his body for NFL training camp. This is known as new information not available in 20/20 hindsight recaps

Then you are assuming the "idiot " other GMs don't know about the track issue now???

Why again are they idiots? Have they traded for him now? What have other GMs done to be desrved to be called idiots right now...Are they idiots because you think they might trade for him?
Please give me another lesson in critical thinking.....

I'd take a 6th for him in a heartbeat from a nonJet team.

Yes, now you're talking and I largely agree. Patriots offense is totally wicked awesome and does not need any playmakers. Still, we don't have anyone with speed like this:

Within about a year he chose football, then track, then both. Maybe he doesn't know what he wants yet. Maybe he will decide that football is it after all. As great as BB is, he cannot coach this speed. All I'm saying is this guy has value. If it weren't for track, he would have been a mid round pick or possibly higher. If he decides to commit to football, he still carries that value. I wouldn't trade him for a late pick is all.

We do have playmakers agreed but it would be nice to see what Demps can do with the ball in open space. He could be a type of playmaker we don't have and no other team either right now. (Cribbs, Hester earlier in their careers)

Unless its a 5th or better which is highly unlikely I'd just keep him and see what happens after this season of track.

I agree ... we have more to gain in keeping him than we do in trading him for now.

I will say this my opinion is that Jeff Demps knows exactly what he wants. He wants to run track and he wants to be paid as an NFL player.

Sure! If he does nothing for 2 years, we can get a 2nd for him, like we're getting for Mallett.

Trade him..i don't care. It doesn't sound like he is all in for the NFL..if that is the case...cya later
