Correll Buckhalter is someone no one is talking about, but I think he would be a good addition.

I kind of think if we let CD go, we will pick up a big back. In that case (no more CD) I would prefer Ahman Green, Anthony Thomas, or TJ DUckett. Or Steven Davis is he has anything left.

For FB, Pass is history. I wouldn't mind keeping Heath Evans. The only FB out there I like other than Evans is BJ Askew. I had hoped the Pats would draft him when he came out. But I wonder why Mangini is letting him go.

Corey is reportedly due a roster bonus of $3M that he agreed to move to 2007 last March coming off a lackluster injury plagued 2005 when they guaranteed his 2006 salary. So I think retaining him could cost more that $4.4M. If he is willing to play for his salary alone again and delay that roster bonus further into 2008 in exchange for guaranteeing his $2.5M 2007 salary (and perhaps incentivizing some of that bonus he could yet see this year based on performance) I believe that would lower his cap hit to $2.8M in 2007.

I think they again need to see just how much Corey wants another ring. He is obviously having some issues regarding maintaining conditioning, and did say off the record after the AFCC that he was done. Does he want to go through the process again and for less money in a more limited goal line Bus type role, or has he earned and won enough. I guess we will know in a month if he's still around once roster bonus time is upon us.

There's no way Heath Evans isn't re-signed. the FO loves him, he worships them. Add a decent RB in round 3 or 4, and move forward.

So he can sign Evans of course

BB/SP need to ask themselves two questions:
Is Dillon worth $4.4M?
Is Maroney ready for upwards of 300 touches next season?

Unless the answers are No and Yes, respectively, then the status - Dillon, Faulk, Maroney, Evans(?) and Mills? - will probably remain quo.

If the answers are No and No, then I think that signing a younger, cheaper Dillon/Antoine Smith-style power back is a good idea. There are some good players available, therefore their prices should be relatively low. I would stay away from Davenport, Davis, Dayne and Green, however.

If the answers are Yes and No, then perhaps a smaller, younger Faulk/Mewelde Moore-style 3rd-down back is the way to go. He could serve as Faulk's understudy/replacement while spelling Maroney on non-short-yardage situations.

The bottom line is: Dillon and Faulk have less games ahead of them, than they have behind them. Their replacements need to be on the Opening Day 53 either this season or next season, esp. in Dillon's case.

If CD retires, and the cost isn't too high, i would go with TJ DUckett. If he wants a big paycheck, then forget it.

Before the all the quacking
Regular season 2006 total rushing yards = 1969
Regular season 2005 total rushing yards = 1562
Regular season 2004 total rushing yards = 2134 SB winner

so the team has improved to close the 04 season... so the status quo stays.

Excellence is NOT ENOUGH!

Resume quacking.
