How long have you loved the Draft, favorite draft choice ever ?

I've been a draft junkie ever since 1977, after learning how important the 1976 Draft was to the Pat's incredible turnaround in 1976. I loved the Stanley Morgan pick in 1977, always was fascinated with the WR position. Anyway, I've been through many Patriot's drafts since then, and even went to the draft in 1981 (Brian Holloway and Tony Collins, not bad). I love this time of year, NFL Draft and NHL Playoffs.

My favorite draft choice was in 1989 #1 pick Hart Lee Dykes, really thought he was going to be like Al Toon, who was the best tall receiver at the time. Unfortunately it didn't work out that way, but man what a prospect he was. Still had sick stats for Oklohoma State, despite Barry Sanders running for almost 2400 yards. Dykes had 74 catches for 1278 yards and 14 tds as a Senior.

What was your favorite pick, whether he worked out or not ? And you're not allowed to use Tom Brady as your choice.

I have been following the draft going back to the mid-80s and without a doubt in my mind, my favorite pick was Tedy Bruschi because I was back in school at the U of A and was there for Desert Swarm.

As far as I am concerned, Bruschi was the best 3rd round pick that the Patriots ever had, followed closely by the selection of Curtis Martin.

For me it was Bledsoe. I loved the pick. My least favorite of all time was Mankins. Goes to show you what I know.

Aside from Brady, Wilfork was arguably one of the best picks of the Belichick era, because he was both
the best available player and filled a position of great need.

I too was excited about the trade-up for Chad Jackson, and was OK with the Maroney pick,
though my first choice was DeAngelo Williams. That's what what I get for believing in IBWT.

2010 ~ The Year I caught The Draft Bug. I was crazy about Aaron the Navigator, and Mocked'm to us on that pathetic Site that I subsequently dumped!! Funny thing: When I mocked'm to us in March, I was met with universal Scorn & Derision!! And I also lobbied long and loud for us to draft Zoltan ~ Zoltan!! ~ Space Emperor...of Space!!

2011 ~ Shattering Shane Careen Vereen!! I lobbied long & loud for us to Pick'm, and lost it when we actually did so!! A true FlexBack ~ equally deadly Running or Receiving!! ~ to take our Offense into the 21st Century!! :rocker:

2012 ~ Jake Bequette!! Hard Core Core Strength, astonishing Agility, and a raging Motor!! All he needs is Time...And I still say that Nate Ebner will become an extraordinary Strong Safety!! :rocker:

Yeah, Chung was bad. But then, there was a year we traded down to get Trevor Matich and Ben Thomas. SF used the pick for Jerry Rice.

I've had sporadic interest over the Years, starting with The Toilet Bowl in 1981, when we lost on purpose to the Colts in Week 16, to win the #01 Pick it the 1982 Draft and the rights to the immortal Ken Sims!!

But, yeah, ever since I caught The Draft Bug in March of 2010, it's consumed me!!

I still have Oceans to learn to get Up To Speed...but it's been a Blast!!

Since 1978, that year i listened to the draft on a little transistor radio while studying for final exams. I haven't missed one yet no matter where ive been. ESPN stated televising it in the early eighties, it was held on a tuesday before being moved to saterdays because of the popularity of it. One of the most exciting days of the year was the day after the draft, i'd go out and buy a copy of the globe the herald and the local newspaper to read the draft analysis. Favorite pick Mike Haynes although i was pretty excited about Branden Spikes...least favorite pick Trevor Matich

This is only my second year of closely following the draft. 2011 was my first year on this board but that was a learning year for me. I did however correctly predict Solder and Vereen in that year and I was a fairly vocal and early advocate for Hightower last year so I would have tp say those are my favourite picks.

Bledsoe was probably my second favorite. I think I wound up with EVERY Bledsoe rookie card. Still have them. I'm 50, but didn't catch the sports card bug till around age 30. Still love buying rookie cards. Have a few Gronkowski rookie cards.

This is my first year really closely following the draft but my favorite pick has to be Gronk i remember watching and seeing them trading up to get him and i was so pumped that was when i was 13

The draft pick that was the most fun of all time has to be Gronk. Once I saw the dance I knew he was our type of guy.

I have been following the draft rather closely since 1982 because the previous year my late dad (a Giants fan) said during a pre-season game "Hey check out this new Linebacker the Giants drafted called Taylor". Wow. I guess Ray Perkins (the Giants coach at the time only watched a few minutes of film before deciding to draft him. Belichick who was the defensive coordinator at the time noted that with Taylor is was pretty obvious from the first day of camp what they had.

About 10 - 15 years, love the coverage it gets now. My favorite was Vince Wilfork, I was crossing my fingers, searching for 4 leaf clovers and trying VooDoo, anything to get him to drop to us.

My favorite was the undersized LB who actually outplayed Steve Nelson. A tackling machine who spoke Texan, not English.

The Cowboys deeply regretted not taking him. They thought he was undersized. He was.

But he was overhearted. A tackling machine, a true tackling machine.

If I had been old enough, the 1976 year would be my favorite. Leon Gray and John Hannah. Are you kidding me? That's a huge upgrade on the line.

I'm still waiting for the Vegas Ferguson explosion to happen. How could he have done so little?

The pick I had the most confidence in was Parcells's second I believe, McGinest out of USC. Bledsoe was his first. That gave us such confidence. I watched every game that 2-14 season that led to his pick. And it was neck and neck with him and Notre Dame's Rick Mirer! Can you believe it?

The draft is not a science. I'm wondering if a guy I just learned about who was born and raised in Brockton who looks as if he's come in to provide back up for Ninkovich might play better than expected. _Jason Vega_. Heart can't be discounted.

I remember an extraordinary player who lacked it, Kenneth Sims. He could have been dominant, but didn't care--until the season it came to do a new contract. Then he played more aggressively.

I'll never forget when he tried to tackle a running back with his leg and ended up breaking it. That's emblematic of his mediocre career in New England.

But over the years I thought picks would work that haven't. More recently Laurence Maroney leaves a bitter taste in my mouth. He more than anyone else was responsible for the first SB loss to the Giants, who just dared us to run. Which we did. But Maroney allowed himself to go down by diving one-arm tackles. Harumph!

And I must confess I had high hopes for both Chad Jackson and esp. Patrick Chung.

Been following the drafts since 1992 (I was a fan of the Chris Canty selection... oof). I also thought Andy Katzenmoyer had a chance to be a HOF LB.

Favorite Patriots Pick = Tom Brady. I was a sucker for Michigan since the Charles Woodson days and was ecstatic that the Pats took him.

Other guys I liked that weren't Patriots picks in the early to mid 90's: Jerome Bettis, Ki-Jana Carter (sah-wing and a miss), and J.J. Stokes (another whiff).

Hardcore follower since 2005 whereupon I seem to usually gravitate towards ZBS running backs (Foster, Steve Slaton, DeMarco Murray*, and Alex Green I've been high on in past drafts). * = exception.

I've also been high on solid LBs like Colin McCarthy who landed in Tennessee and Mychal Kendricks last year who is in Philadelphia.
