Before the jokes about how much noise there is at Gillette Stadium commence, I do have an issue with one part of this proposal.

The league has also said teams can use audio to encourage crowd noise until 20 seconds remain on the play clock. In the past, any audio used to encourage crowd noise had to stop with 30 seconds left on the play clock.​

So if a team goes to a hurry up or no huddle offense, and the quarterback is calling the play at the line of scrimmage or calling an audible, and there is more than 20 seconds remaining on the play clock, then it is okay for the stadium operators to artificially creat as much noise as they want?

How is that fair?

Is the fact that the Patriots often employ this type of an offense strictly a coincidence?

I think that you are misunderstanding what is being said. The stadium operators won't be allowed to "artificially create" as much noise as they want. They will, however, be allowed to do things to get the crowd riled up. Like playing D-Fense on the jumbo tron. Or them leading the "CHARGE" chant. Stuff like that.

I would assume that it is another attempt to 'enhance the live in stadium game experience'.

Although TV ratings are very strong, the NFL is concerned that fans are increasingly choosing the home experience over the stadium experience and has been looking for ways to make fans enjoy attending games more.​

I'm with DaBruinz, encouraging crowd noise does not equal making crowd noise.

That said it could really be corny in an Arena League or NBA kind of way. Don't like it.

During my courageous forays into the Jersey swamplands, I noted that the Green Beans run an an obnoxiously earsplitting air-raid siren over the P.A. while the opposing offense is huddled. That crap needs to stop.

The problem, of course, is distinguishing between the crap that needs to be stopped, the crap that we Pats fans should hope DOESN'T stop (Buttfumble recoveries for everyone!), and the general crapfest that is the New York JEST.

I don't like it. Feels campy to me, like an NBA game. Next thing you'll start hearing the announcers go berserk every time there's a completion by the home, while acting like they just woke up when the visiting team does something. I always found that off-putting in the NBA:

Miami scores: "Lebron James... assist to whatever who cares..."

Celtics score: "PAUUUUUULLLLL PIEEEEEERRRRCECCCCCEEEE FOR THREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!

meanwhile, it's 3-2 in the first minute of the game.

Obviously I am in the vast minority with my opinion here, but I still feel that this decision is giving free license and tacit approval to home teams to crank up the volume if they so desire in an attempt to counteract a no huddle offense or hurry up offense of an opposing visiting team if they desire to do so.

Rather than allow this to go on until there are 20 seconds left on the play clock, it should be 'until there are 20 seconds left on the play clock, or the offense breaks its huddle, whichever comes first'.



On a separate but related issue, I also do not like the idea that the OC can continue to communicate with a QB who has broken from the huddle, until 15 seconds remain on the play clock. If the offense is ready to snap the ball it seems as if that is an unfair advantage for the OC to be able to continue to communicate with the QB; once the line is set the communication should end.
