1m Dennard must report on March 1, 2014 for 30-day sentence, but will get credit for three days already served

So.... looks like he'll be suiting up for this season afterall.

Re: Dennard Sentence

27 days to hit the weight room (in house) and be a model citizen. Pats dodged a bullet and end up with a very good player for very little draft capital. But you won't hear about him in any threads moaning about how the Pats suck at finding secondary help.

Re: Dennard Sentence

Hell play for us at some point in the season. Don't forget about the league sanctions. Theyll definitely suspend him for a certain amount of time. Hope our tougher games won't be til after his suspension.

Re: Dennard Sentence

Excellent news

Ps next time is make the thread title a bit more specific

Re: Dennard Sentence

I hate cliches, but this may be the best thing that ever happens to him -- a relatively inexpensive dose of alternate reality to help the young man develop perspective.

Re: Dennard Sentence

He might not even see the 27 days. Short timers like that tend to get released early because of overcrowding problems. Not sure the state of population in prisons in Nebraska, but in many states he would only see a week or two in jail.

To be fair I dont think capitalizing on value in the 7th should be the same as evaluating a player against his peers in the early rounds but I dont really care about the perception that Patriots might suck at drafting DB or WR anyway because last time I checked its about how the team preforms not individual players or positions.

Re: Dennard Sentence

The question remains - will Goodell suspend him?

My feeling is a 30 day sentence shows that the authorities are not making a bigger deal out of this than they should - but leave it to Goodell to decide that the Justice System isn't being hard enough and he needs to suspend a player for something done before they were ever in the NFL

Don't think he really can after Kendrick Ellis.

Lots of dialogue about this earlier - the contract language leaves the door open for Goodell to discipline players that are convicted while in the NFL for transgressions that occurred before they were in the NFL.

There is still risk.

Re: Dennard Sentence

27 days. If he sees 14 thats about it. To be honest. its still too much.

best of luck fonzy.

But now its the Patriots and not his beloved Jets. I bet he will make a BS statement about how he will be looking to see if further punishment needs to happen to make Pats fans sweat, before he does nothing because he really can't like you said.

Re: Dennard Sentence

The incident didn't happen while he was in the NFL. He shouldn't be suspended

Yes - but I'm sure everyone is aware that Goodell HAS suspended players for incidences that occured BEFORE they were in the NFL before.

He's also NOT suspended players in the past - so no surprise, Goodell has been inconsistent.

So we do need to wait until they make a statement to celebrate.

Would it surprise anyone if he gave a Jets player a pass, but suspended a Patriots player - both of whom had run-ins with the law PRIOR to joining the NFL?

Re: Dennard Sentence

Note that Shaliza says he will serve the prison time in March 2014, following the 2013 season.

Legally he cannot punish a player based upon a conduct policy that they hadn't agreed upon at the time of his incident.

Re: Dennard Sentence

Sentence could have been worse. Dennard keeps a low profile model citizen Judge could go easier on him. Executioner that can factor in is Goodell with a suspension that could have us scrambling to cover for him.
