Our #1 slot receiver, Amendola, has missed 23 games in 4 seasons. His back up, Edleman, is also injury prone.

Gronk has had a major injury the last two seasons and is now going to need additional surgery, possibly missing the start of this season as well.

Hernandez is injured every single year.

Our top 3 receiving threats, all injury prone.

Our #1 corner is injury-prone, some related to questionable work-ethic/conditioning.

Is there absolutely anyone here who actually excepts all 4 of the above to be starting our first playoff game? This scares me. Hopefully Chandler Jones bounces back as well.

On paper, I still believe this is the best team in the NFL. Sadly, I can no longer expect a healthy Gronk/Hernandez to ever be on the field at the same time in a big playoff game.

its part of the game I cant remember any NFL team going into the playoffs with all 22 starters that they started the season with, enjoy the summer with your kids we will worry about injuries when the season starts in 4 months

Thread ignore champion in full effect.

Ain't it awful, no it's god awful....

I don't think the Patriots believe being 'injury prone' is a real thing, i think they believe in their strength and conditioning program and rehab programs, its fair to say that all of these players have had bad luck, certainly in the case of Gronkowski and Amendola.

You see the Patriots taking 'Injury prone' players all of the time in the draft and in free agency, its the reason they ended up with Gronkowski.

I think the Patriots see an 'injury prone' player as an opportunity to put their conditioning program to work, and also as a way to gain value in an area not many other teams are willing to.

This 'gaining value' effect is the reason why the Patriots end up with so many great players, they are constantly identifying someone with a medical condition or someone who is expected to fall due to personal issues such as Aaron Hernandez's marijuana usage.

One of the main reasons the Patriots are able to do this is because of their backup depth, which is one of the best in the league, on offense last year the TEs were barely on the field at the same time, this is a TE centric offense and the Patriots still finished with the #1 scoring offense in the league.

Officially?

Hmm. Not really seeing what's so "official" about any of this....

Does the injury report now designate players to be "injury-prone," or something? Is there an "injury-prone" tag, these days?

I can't necessarily call most of these players injury prone.

Amendola has dislocated his elbow and broke his collarbone (which could have killed him, by the way. His injury didn't get the same press as Roethlisberger's). When it comes to bone break like that, it's not a sign of weakness, it's a freak incident that just came at an unfortunate time. If those breaks don't happen, Amendola would have missed no more games than your "average" NFL player.

Gronkowski had back issues coming out of college, and some could argue they have affected him at times. But has he missed time because of back issues? No. He has missed time because Pollard decided to drop all 220 pounds of himself directly onto Gronkowski's ankle, and because Sergio Brown decided to actually show up on film once (Career highlight?). Gronkowski is no more injury prone than Amendola, in my opinion. I'm not worrying about the infection until he is actually missing games in September.

Hernandez is the same deal, greatly. He has missed 2 games in each of his first 2 seasons (which to me is still acceptable, playing 16 games is tough), but last year was a complete accident.

Chandler Jones was fighting off a high ankle sprain (IN BOTH ANKLES). Talib is the closest one I'd put to being injury prone.

That is what I call Living up to your Call-Sign :bricks:

It's always been injury prone. As long as Brady stays healthy they'll be in the playoffs.

In the playoffs, even though injuries have hurt, they are not the reason we lose. We lose because we get punched in the mouth and don't know how to react. After watching this team in 2004 lose 2 HOF caliber players Ty Law, Richard Seymour, and another starting CB Tyrone Poole for the AFC playoffs and still dominate 2 great teams I refuse to use Gronk, Talib as an excuse. If our defense finally takes that next step and is able to get nasty when it counts we'll manage through the injuries.

Well at least you're living up to your name Pete.

2013 Patriots "The Glass Menagerie"

Now, on to Thread Ignore

Love the shoot the messenger mentality when an OP veers away from Pats good, World bad topics. Besides the brittleness of our pass catchers, don't forget Glass I Dowling has lived up to his rep and Talib managed to be on the field for half his Pats games.
I am proud BB squeezed some sweet deals for Danny A and the Seabass. The savings allowed us to get Edelperson for a couple games :)

Let's not forget that our starting QB has also missed 15 games over the last 5 years...

I don't think the Patriots believe being 'injury prone' is a real thing

Seriously......you haven't been paying attention to the contracts NE has been writing for their injury prone players.... Amendola, Edelman, and Vollmer. It is comforting that if/when these guys go down the team will save some coin :)

My favorite part of this thread, is that he typed "an totally", which means he was going to leave it as "an injury prone team" but thought nah, that's not inflammatory enough. An TOTALLY injury prone team will really convey my general dissatisfaction with the risk of injury in football, which is TOTALLY isolated to the New England Patriots.

Good luck OP.

Chicken Little to English translation:

"Some important players on the Patriot's roster have health/injury concerns."

Perhaps the Patriots are looking to be the all-injured team. Didn't they set a record for most IRed players in 2004 when they won the WB?
