Well, with Edelman resigning and Sanders looking like he'll be coming too, in addition to the other free-agent signings what do you think about the likely receiving core and TE core?

WR
Danny Amendola
Emmanuel Sanders
Donald Jones
Julian Edelman
Michael Jenkins
/ Aaron Hernandez (Extra WR/X-Man)
Shane Vereen
Leon Washington

TE
Rob Gronkowski
Aaron Hernandez/ WR
Jake Ballard - pass catching/ receiving type

I'd like one more, taller outside guy.

CORPS!!! Receiver CORPS!!!! NOT "core."

See what you are saying but we didn't have a big tall guy back in 2003 or 2004. I think Hernandez could take that cake, he can get outside I think if put in those routes. He is fast enough and has the moves..

So we're keeping six receivers (Slater's not getting cut), three tight ends, four running backs?

Jenkins probably doesn't make the team. Other JAGs and camp bodies will be brought in to compete with him and Jones for that last spot in all likelihood. A rookie draft pick is likely still in the cards as well. How that changes the dynamics of this is unknown at this point.

I suspect that the Patriots are definitely not done with their overhaul of the WR "corps" (thanks Tunescribe ;)).

The WR corpse has no life and it is a chore reading about the corp but u r preaching to the choir

They still need to acquire a WR in this upcoming draft, preferably in the first three rounds.

No WR they draft this year will be able to contribute, so, why waste the draft choice?

They still need talent on defense (DB/DL) and they could use a guard.

As long as the draftee is short with no deep threat capabilities

Deep threat capabilities are overrated, though I wouldn't mind some height.

You're basing this off what, exactly?

Rookie receivers rarely contribute in the passing game, never mind a passing attack as complex as the Patriots. The Patriots, by using a draft pick on Sanders have basically stated that they have drafted a WR, one with experience in the league.

Furthermore, unless they plan on cutting a WR on the roster for a high draft pick, it ain't gonna happen. Because, I believe that even Michael Jenkins will be able to contribute more this year than a round 1 WR.

Now, I would not be surprised to see a bunch of UDFA or late round picks brought in, less invested = less lossed

Add either Keenan Allen or Justin Hunter to the list and I'll be content.

Brain wash complete

Oh, right! I forgot all you do here nowadays is troll. Will save me from having to respond to any of your posts in the future.

So you're saying they need to draft the "right" receiver - one that can contribute, at some level, this season. I agree.

They got one receiver. They need another.

Michael Jenkins kind of sucks; the type of guy you cut him for a seventh round WR, not to mention a 1-3 round receiver.

Receivers on the roster sans Slater

ht wt age year
Aiken, Kamar WR 6-2 213 23 2 Central Florida
Amendola, Danny WR 5-11 188 27 4 Texas Tech
Ebert, Jeremy WR 5-11 195 24 R Northwestern
Holmes, Andre WR 6-4 223 24 2 Hillsdale
Jenkins, Michael WR 6-4 214 30 9 Ohio State
Jones, Donald WR 6-0 208 25 3 Youngstown State

And Sanders if the Steelers do not match.

I just don't see them drafting a guy that they will expect to stick, I think they will see other places to improve the team right now.

Even with Sanders, they're banking a lot on potential and durability.

By the way, Edelman is a WR, too.
