Report: Edelman's back

Re: Sounds like Edelman's back

Until they are re-signed, I will not "depend" on them to be here. See how that word works?

Sure. Seems like a pretty, well, pointless point but carry on.

Let's not kid ourselves. Our WR core is pretty crappy still and Keenan Allen would be the best receiver on the team day 1. If we end up getting Sanders atleast we will have two good WRs.

Edelman, meh hope it was limited money.
That's somewhat of a bleak outlook. The Patriots are trying to improve the WR core by adding more playmakers at all levels. The days of slow-footed, soft receivers that lack the ability to make big plays on their own or generate YAC or any any separation on the outside are seemingly over. The WR core is younger, faster, and vastly more explosive than it was last season and they're likely not done addressing it yet.

As for the contract, reports are that its "incentive-laden." There's likely no guarantees beyond that.

Re: Sounds like Edelman's back

Or just sign Danario Alexander to a sheet and see if the Chargers don't match and then go all defense in the draft.

Doubt we could still afford him if Sanders goes through - and if it's a choice between him and Abraham, put me down for Abraham.

If Sanders doesn't fly through, then I agree on going after DA - I think they would still have time? maybe that's why they didn't wait until the very last minute on Sanders...

Good depth signing. Edelman is a solid #4 WR who is quite versatile.

Re: Sounds like Edelman's back

Glad he's back. Not a guy you want to count on to play every game, but he's great Amendola insurance and an elite punt returner. Yes, elite.

I do agree if it was between Abraham and Alexander I would go Abraham.

No thanks. I'd rather draft a guy like Justin Hunter. His knees aren't ready to explode out of his legs at any moment.

And that should solve that....Now - we wait to see if the Steelers match on Sanders.

Next order of business - the draft.

Clearly top 5, arguably top 2.

YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS
and looks like Emanuel Sanders coming in too. September can't come soon enough!

Mike Garafolo ‏@MikeGarafolo 4m

WR Julian Edelman will re-sign with the Patriots today. Visited the Giants but is going back to New England.

Good signing he is an above average backup for Amendola which I think is very important with his injury history. Edelman is also a very good ST player.

Let's not count our chickens, rumors are floating around that Pittsburgh will match. Love the Edelman signing, great punt returner, and if both Amendola and Edelman stay healthy, we can have them on the field at the same time. Our offense was unstopable when we had Welker AND Edelman on the field together.

Agree. I also would be surprised to see Edelman get some of the snaps in the backfield on 3rd down that went to Woodhead last year. He adds that fear of passing dimension back there with his college QB history.

Overall it's a great signing, you get and elite special teams player and an occasionally explosive playmaker that can give a team 3-5 big plays over the course of a season from a depth player.

Pretty surprised they signed welker and did an offer sanders. Maybe it was just a ploy to force the steelers hand and they don't actually expect to sign him.

Love that Edelman is back. Stud special teams player and extremely underrated as a wr.

No, the next order of business is to see if the steelers match. We will then have a week to sign another player or two before the draft, or not (a DE?).

Could we change the title? Saw "Edelman's Back" and figured it was another Edelman injury

Are you sure because I think I did just say that. Either way - if the Steelers match then their wide receiving corp is set with or without Sanders.

Yea Tony - We are all surprised that they signed Welker as well....

:rocker:

So Gronk, Hernandez, Amendola, Edelman, and Alexander as your primary receiving core?

Would it be possible to have a more injury prone receiving core short of moving Dowling to WR?

I didn't read you post carefully enough. My bad.

To be clear, I DON'T think that the wide receiver corps is set, whether PITT matches or not. Sanders and Edelman signed 1-year offers. We are very likely to draft a wide receiver.
