Heard that Givens ACL will not allow him to return for game one and he is expected to be cut.....

First I've heard of that. I'd love to re-sign him although Caldwell and Gaffney are the same "type" of WR to me.

I really doubt the Titans will cut Givens after one year especially with the financial investment they made in him. David Patton on the other hand is likely to get cut.

Was that whispered in your ear during a lap dance?:singing:

Except that Givens is a much, much, much better blocker.
I like him better as a WR too, but they're the same type of (relatively) slowish, unathletic big posession WR. We kind of need the small, quick Branch type more. Don't get me wrong, though, the 2005 Givens would be our #1 WR IMO.

WEEI, on the Greg an Holley show, about 12:30 this afternoon, on my way into work. They were reading it off of a Tenn press clipping. I was hoping to hear more here. The report said that Givens ACL injury hasn't healed up enough for him to be counted on for the beginning of the season. The article further went on to say that the team is expected to release him soon. Makes one wonder how bad that injury is?

David Givens (torn ACL) is not expected to be ready for Week 1 in 2007.

Even if Tennessee pulls off re-signing free agent Drew Bennett, the club is expected to add wideouts in the draft and/or free agency. With the Titans a projected $37 million under the salary cap, it won't be a surprise if they're willing to take a potential cap hit to part ways with Givens.

And there is the paper quoted!:)

I'm glad that he got his big signing bonus if this is a carrer ending injury for him.

If he's not going to be ready to play for the Titans, why would we sign him?

It would cost the Titans more to cut him than to keep him.

I tihnk it's pure specualtion. It takes one full season to completely come back. He'll be effective in years 3,4,5 of his contract. I don't see him getting released.

Dont knock a good lap dance when one is available!:D

He got an 8 million signing bonus which he has already been paid. His salarys for 2008 is 2.5 mil, and 3.5 mil for 2009-2010. None of which is all that high.

Plus

You can not cut a player if he is injured. The Titans would have to come to some sort of injury settlement with Givens.

So if they came to an injury settlement, they would have paid him @ 10 million dollars for ONE YEAR! Plus whatever the settlement would be and take at least a 8.5 million dollar cap hit for cutting him.

NO WAY THIS HAPPENS, NONE OF THIS MAKES ANY SENSE!

It is amazing how little some newspaper guys know.

Glad to see he got his money, and hopefully it is not a career ending injury.. he might be back, stay tuned folks this could get interesting.
