I don't think that this could possibly be considered a "bad" signing, even if Wilson only ends up playing part-time etc. He adds depth and experience to the safety grouping, which should be significantly improved with a full year of McCourty.

Hopefully we also see a continued progression from Tavon Wilson and Steve Gregory can add something as a role player. Adding Adrian Wilson can give us more options in subpackages and if he has a good TC, he may even be in line for a starting role.

The contract is not one that would have significant damage to the future, and Wilson has had a pretty darn good career--even taking into account his losing of a step last season.

This comment by Rodney is difficult to determine if he still thinks he can be a good safety now or if he is just giving props to a very good career as a whole.

Wilson and Harrison are almost mirror like signings. Both players are on the backside of their careers that BB signed. Both are hard hitters, smart leaders.

John Lynch could have been a good sign, but, he was already cooked.

Wilson and Harrison are almost mirror like signings. Both players are on the backside of their careers that BB signed. Both are hard hitters, smart leaders.

John Lynch could have been a good sign, but, he was already cooked.

The problem is Wilson is much closer in game to the cooked John Lynch than to the player Rodney Harrison was when he came to the Patriots.
Patriots could have done better at that position but per usual they took the cheap route.

IIRC AWilson is 3 years older than Rodney was when he came,. so he certainly is farther along his career path. But while I think Rodney gushes a bit too much, I also think he probably knows a lot more about how to play that position and has a better feel for what Wilson is expected to do.

I think he hit the nail on the head when he described Wilson playing inside the box as coverage LB, playing the TE. That is becoming more and more a key role in the pass defense as TE's become more of a passing threat. So even if his only role is on running downs and specific passing downs, he will be a great signing.

You also can't underestimate the importance of Wilson's role as leader and mentor of that secondary. That defense need some seasoning. Now they will get it in all 3 areas. On the DL from Wilfolk,.at LB from Mayo, and now in the secondary from AWilson.

I don't think Wilson is close to the Rodney that we got at this point but I still think Wilson is a lot closer to that then he is to Lynch who retired after camp.

Have felt for a while now that one of the deficits of the secondary has been the lack of on field leadership, although it got better as the season went on at one point our D backfield totaled less than 5 years experience...

Agree with the assessment about the tight ends, this has been a challenge for this team as well..

I agree that many of the people on this site have no perspective as what the Pats were in the era of Billy Sullivan. Too bad they weren't around in the mid 70's when we had the best talent in the NFL only to let it go because of lack of money.

Wilson isnt known for his coverage skills and thats where the Pats are weakest. Just look at all the losses in 2012 to see the common thread.

You're wasting your time trying to explain the distinction to him and Rhody. They are both too busy wallowing in their misery to care.

Its always the same with some people. Regardless of what the Pats do, its not enough, and what everyone else is "obviously" better. It just must be SOOOOOO difficult to be a fan of a perpetual loser like the Pats. Those guys can't seem to get ANYTHING right!

What they went for is an attempt to clone themselves into the Colts.

In the long run, all those offensive stats don't mean much.
