Kevin Kolb, Baby!! ~ Time To Buy LOW!!!

Kevin Kolb was a major Fail of mine, two Years ago, as'e hit the rocks HARD in Zona. And God knows there've been plenty'f questions about'is Vertical FirePower.

But there've also been extensive indications ~ both in Planet Hoosten and in Philly & Zona ~ that he has the Potential not only to be a strong Leader and a reliable Decision Maker Under Pressure...but can actually sling it DownField reliably and accurately.

...potentially.

I'm an HUGE Fan of Buying Low ~ if I believe that there is good reason to believe that the Asset in question commands outstanding Intrinsic Value ~ and Kolb strikes me as a Classic Case: Despite an horrid QuarterBack Market, he is getting no Love.

Yet 20 short months ago, the Cardinals payed a MINT for'm...and now he SUCKS??

Mind you: Greg McElroy, Kellen Moore, & Peter Lalich remain by far my Favorites ~ and I'd love to take a swing at Jordan Rodgers, as I'm a big Fan of Pedigree!! ~ but I'd certainly love to sign up Kolb ~ if he's amenable, which is obviously an huge "IF" ~ to a 1 Year/Team Option at say $5 Million for the 2nd Year Deal, to give'm a chance of starting over in an healthy Environment.

He just might go for it, with'is Stock as abysmally low as it is. And if we were following my Prime Directive to have one of the Top 3 Coaches at every single position At All Times, regardless of Cost, he'd be much more likely to embrace the idea of taking a Year to cool off, strip things back down, mentally, and get his still potentially excellent Career back on the Rails, with the right Coaching & Guidance to get'm back on Track...

And of course we might well be in a position to trade'm, a year hence, for considerable Draft Booty!!

...to our Mutual Benefit, I might add: He gets'is Career resurrected. We get Draft Booty.

It's these Wily Moves That Work The System that can eventually pile up and forge an unstoppable WAVE of Draft Picks that, combined with great Coaching, could produce an unprecedented Reign of Dominance!!

But what would he do here that would raise his market value? Annihilate 4th-string CBs in pre-season? Earn black t-shirts in blacked-out practices?

With any luck (ours, not his) he'd never do anything to catch anyone's eye.

I'm actually surprised at the lack of interest in Kolb. The Raiders should be bringing him in instead of trading draft picks for Flynn.

Kolb has had a tough time staying healthy but he has been decent when he's played. He threw for 8 TDs vs. 3 INTs in 6 games last season. He got sacked a lot but part of that was his terrible line.

The Bills, Jets, and Jaguars should all at least be kicking tires as a back-up, if not potential starter.

What could he do here that would raise his value as perceived by other GMs? He'll get zero meaningful snaps if TFB stays healthy. Instead he'll take up cap space that could be either pushed forward or used to sign a depth FA. We all have seen the toll injuries take on this team and the need for capable depth.

If being a backup on the NE Patriots is such a resume enhancer why is Mallett still here instead of being traded for at least a #2 pick and a FA vet signed to replace him at backup?

If there's any QB worth bringing in from outside it would probably be Colt McCoy who is good enough to be a starter in the league but because he isn't flashy and the Browns have no weapons at all he got jettisoned from his starting job.

This is untrue. Colt McCoy is a terrible quarterback. He has no arm, no pocket awareness, and makes bad decisions with the ball. He was a solid college QB because he played on a loaded team and his athleticism played up in college---it does not in the NFL.

McCoy is not good enough to be a starter in the NFL. He is both terrible and injury prone, which Kevin Kolb may well be also---although not as much so as McCoy.

As to Grid's theory, I like it if he can be bought low...like, LOW. True backup money, not Matt Cassel backup money. That said, I like the idea of taking Lalich or another developmental (translation: young) QB to push Mallett and maybe make him more tradeable. Plus, TFB won't play forever so getting a young guy like Lalich or another prospect in the system would be a good idea. I think they'l at least have a QB on the practice squad this year.
