Tony Romo is gonna get paid...

He obvious is a huge choker but no question he's the least problem in Dallas...to much guaranteed money but won't look like a huge deal when Rodgers and Ryans contract are done...

I agree with your thoughts. There are a lot of problems down there, so I don't personally blame Romo as much as the next guy. I think he has some good attributes in his ability to scramble out of trouble time and time again, and bad traits too. Most of all, he needs to improve on his decision making.

If they were committed to retaining him however, this is the kind of contract that is needed to do it in today's NFL regarding QB's. It's also quite possible that the numbers are tremendously inflated on the back end too. I'm not seeing any out of the ordinary at all to be honest.

Dallas' main problem is the fact that they have Jerry Jones running the team and refusing to hire a real GM.

I'm picturing Brady reading about this and the Flacco deal, comparing them to his deal, seeing Wes in Denver and almost no upgrades in NE, and looking to start drowning kittens.

Yup, Brady really sold himself short and Kraft is really cheap.............

Most guaranteed money in NFL history: Tom Brady, $57 million; Tony Romo, $55 million; Drew Brees, $55 million: Joe Flacco, $51 million

This would have to qualify as one of the dumbest contract extensions in the history of professional sports.

Holy Crap. I didn't know it was possible for JJ to outdumb himself again, but he really has done it.

Amazing. You would think Jerry Jones would have learned his lesson after going over the cap during the non-cap year while the CBA was being negotiated. I bet that the Romo contract will set a record for dead money when all is said and done. Thank goodness the Krafts do not operate like Jerry Jones!

Deus is just saying what all the non-homers can see. The team isn't better at all. That offense that sucked in the AFC Championship game? Worse.

I think that is a fair thought, but the most glaring hole is obviously at the WR position, and that will certainly be addressed.

In the meantime, their total team moves overall should be considered also. We were able to keep the 3 big FA's (with the exception of swapping Amendola for Welker--but that was certainly THEIR decision, not his), kept all 3 CB's in Talib, Arrington, and Cole for STs, and added to the position of safety too. They also brought in one of the better KR's in the league with Washington, who can also add as a 3rd down back if/when chosen to do so.

A pass rusher would go a long way, but in the meantime they have once again put themselves in good position by likely carrying over money to next season, have sufficient funds available if something comes up now, and did not restructure or mess up any pacts into the future. All of those should be considered too, as the team wasn't really lacking in many areas as it was.

When the WR becomes addressed I think you'll have a bit of a different opinion on the improvement of the offense, or at least keeping it the same as the past couple of yrs. In the meantime, I can certainly see your point as there are 2 sides to the FA thoughts and it is certainly debatable.

The one they gave to Doug Free would be at the top, at least in my opinion. He's got a 10 million dollar cap hit this year and was delegated to backup duty last year with a guy they converted from being a DL. The D.Free extension is absolutely inexplainable to me.

I think their biggest problem lies in Jones' decision in not wanting to hire a real GM, so their overall team and future are always going to suffer. I can at least comprehend their decision to retain Romo, if they feel he can keep them competitive for a playoff spot--which isn't a stretch. This is the kind of deal that a starting NFL QB is going to continue getting in today's game, not to mention the fact that it may be inflated due to having some dummy years too.

I can't however, agree with it though, and I certainly think you're right that I would've expected them to even possibly explore other options. As long as Jerry Jones is at the head of their operations, we can at least take comfort in knowing that it's pretty much a 31 team league (or less) regarding our competition, because Dallas really isn't going to pose a threat.

Holy chitznacks, as Pam would say [in a non LVNS environment]

Why hamstring yourself like that?
If you are going to pay the most, get the best.
If you can't get the best QB, use that money to get the best something else that can make impact, and pay a quarter of that for 95% of the QB.

We are in agreement. I can understand wanting to keep Romo (if they're that high on him) but at that price, I can't understand their need to extend Romo.

In my opinion, Jerry Jones is, if not one of, the worst GMs in the NFL.

Is he drowning these kittens in the moat in front of his $25 million dollar estate?

See I'm not necessarily having as much of a problem with the price myself, due to the fact that we're going to see many QB's continue to set the bar and average around 19-20m aav per year. Aaron Rodgers is next, and he is obviously well deserved, but then we'll have Matt Ryan and Matthew Stafford coming up, and we'll all be having the exact same discussion about QB's making ridiculous money who are "undeserved," and who haven't proven a damn thing--even though I definitely believe that they're both more talented and well deserved than Romo is. I think it's just going to be the norm anymore due to the inflation of prices of NFL QB's.

I couldn't possible agree with you more regarding Jerry Jones. He just hasn't been able to get it in the newer era of free agency, as shown by his 1 playoff win in the past 17 yrs. His ego and stupidity are 2 negative traits that will consistenty keep this team down in my opinion. His inability to see that he needs to hire a real GM stuns me with his stupidity. I'm interested in seeing if his son continues his dad's ways once he passes on, or if he's secretly wishing that his dad did things differently too.

This was a deal they kinda had to do. Besides guaranteeing 55 mill, this is probably what above average QBS are gunna be paid. It was re-sign tony or start over, but who would they be able to get in a weak QB class.

Tony is more closer to choke then clutch, but his defence danks. They give up so many points and big plays that Dallas is forced to throw more rather then have a balanced attack.

In week 17 vs the redskins Dallas' defence couldnt stop a nosebleed and they had to play catch up, which lead to them throwing more and lone be hold he gets picked off a few times.

All in all i see tony as an excellent regular season QB who needs a defence to get those playoff wins. Is he worth 108 mill? Probably not but thats just what the market is.

I'd like to see a picture of him drowning these kittens. I'd at least finally have some retaliation when my buddies tease me about the goat pictures. We could even have a "before and after" Giselle thing going with comparitive pics next to each other, one holding the goat, the other drowning a kitten.

The great thing about Romo, from an opponent's perspective, is that he's Peyton Manning, playoff version, in every single game he plays, but his team thinks he's Tom Brady in need of just a little more help.

Romo is statistically the best QB in Cowboys history so I assume what your saying is Romo's stats are misleading and don't result in his team being successful or winning? Sounds like he is the QB version of Welker.

I would agree with your thoughts myself, but I can certainly see the other side of the debate too. When a guy like Romo gets a big extension it's going to cause discussions.

Jones has handed out a lot of bad contracts so far but I will go on record now and say the best is yet to come because the contract he gives to Dez Bryant after this season is going to be the funniest yet.

I'm not that high on Tony Romo and look at this deal some prejudice. I should make that known.

Remember when everyone was trying to find a way to rip Brady for his contract?
"he screwed the other qbs and lowered their market"
"he couldn't have actually gotten much more"
"he's ripping them off getting that much guaranteed money"

Then Flacco and romo promptly get behemoth deals and Rodgers not far away either.

What a joke. Those same people that descreditted brady will probably rip those guys for not taking a discount an accepting less money.

You can see Jerry Jones has surely learned one thing from all his years in the NFL - when you have a team that's almost a winner, keep paying them and they will never win for you.

Something is happening and you don't know what it is - do you, Mr. Jones?

its not like Brady was hoodwinked and does not know what he is doing. Flacco cashed in on a Super Bowl win and Dallas is stupid for even re-signing Romo never mind giving him all that money. I am not buying the "poor Brady got taken advantage of" angle.

Brady has earned plenty of money ...over his career and he realizes what is important in his remaining years. He would rather invest in the ultimate goal. Everyone has there time to cash in ...and you have to take advantage of it. I don't believe that Romo is an elite QB. Romo has good stretches...but also is known as a choker. good luck with the contract Dallas...LOL
