There goes our chance of getting a 1st and 2nd rounder for Mallett.

Besides Cleveland, have their been any others teams that have been reported to have interest in Mallett??

Another thread on what we're not going to get for Ryan Mallet?

They traded a 1 and 3 for Carson? What are they giving up this time, 2 and 3?

It bears watching only because it might have some implication on Mallet's market price. Flynn has not seen a lot of looks either and he was selected with a 7th round pick in the 2009 draft. So he's an older prospect who was selected later in the draft/less highly regarded by scouts initially.

Flynn should get less in return than Mallet if those factors are considered.

Oakland's Reggie Mckenzie has gone on the record multiple times stating that they aren't trading any of this year's picks. We'll assume for the moment that he's either lying or that the draft pick given up will be in next yr's class.

Just so you know, SEA wasn't planning on getting anything above a 3rd or 4th for Flynn, and there was a lot of leeriness about even that high of compensation.

I think it's absolutely ridiculous to assume that "Flynn should get LESS in return than Mallett" when Flynn was one of the higher sought after QBs in free agency last year and he is still 50/50 to even bring a 3rd rounder/4th rounder. It's all speculation though, so you may end up being right.

At the moment we have Carson Palmer and Kevin Kolb drawing interest. We've seen a laundry list a mile long this offseason that includes all kinds of QB bums ranging from Josh Joshnson to David Garrard and Bruce Gradkowski...any everything in-between. I'd have to imagine that if anyone really wanted Mallett they'd have graded him higher than all of these other choices, or maybe he's not even on the trading block!!

Belichick probably isn't going to trade Mallett for anything less than a mid round pick, and I can't see how anyone would be 1/2 that stupid with no NFL experience and no tape or pro scouting to go on besides some boneheaded plays in limited time.

ESPN just reported that the compensation for Flynn is "2 conditional draft picks..." That's about all we know at this point.

On the NFLN ticker the other day, saw that NE would only consider a one or two. It's highly unlikely we trade him this year. That said, I could see a scenario where if two of the tackles are gone by the time Cleveland picks, they trade down and pick up a second, then trade that pick to us for Mallett.

Cleveland just picked up Jason Campbell the other day, so they're pretty much out of the mix for Mallett in my opinion. That was the icing on the cake.

They have Jason Campbell, Brandon Weeden as last yr's 1st rounder, Colt McCoy, and that other kid who started late last year--his name escapes me.

Their OC Norv Turner also praised Matt Barkley the other day a ton, and there have been rumors that they are looking at choosing yet another option in the first couple of rounds this year, although that may/may not be true.

It also should be noted that Rappoport's opinion on them not trading him for anything less than a "1st or 2nd rounder" is purely speculative. The fact that he also works for NFLN is where the rumor came from. Obviously Belichick realizes that no one is going to consider a 1st or 2nd pick at this time for Ryan Mallett. He may very well consider moving him for a 3rd IF that possibility came along, which I'm not seeing at this time.

Cardinals and Bucs I've heard in speculation.

I would have to believe that Mallet would have more value than Flynn at this point for a few reasons. 1. He was signed a year ago by Seattle to be the starter and was beat out by a 3rd rounder before the start of the season, yes it appears Wilson is a legit NFL QB but it still must raise some eyebrows. 2. Flynn comes with a big contract. 3. Flynn 27 and will be 28 by week training camp.

No it was a thread about the Raiders acquiring Matt Flynn. I offered a secondary thought that it could help improve Mallet's value but did not say anything about what or who we'd get in return.

Trading for Flynn at this point in his career is about as good as drafting Brandon Weeden in the first round.

I think Supafly has hit the nail on the head. Mallett is NOT for sale. Period.

His contract was/is being restructured by Oakland, so the financial implications aren't nearly what they were.

I'm not so sure that I'd put as much into the R.Wilson thing as you may, due to the fact that he was an outright beast in the NCAA's and instantly wowed everyone in TC last year.

I don't think Matt Flynn is anything special, by any means. I do however, feel that he is definitely more qualified than Ryan Mallett at this point in time in terms of potential trade compensation. I also think it's pretty telling that even he won't likely bring in a 3rd round pick. In his TWO starts he's thrown for 433 yds and 3 TD's in a near upset of the hugely favored Patriots, and then went on to throw for 518 yds and 6 TD's in his second NFL start. Those are definitely the kind of opportunities that are taken advantage of, and will likely warrant a longer look by many NFL clubs. He had completion rate percentages in the 2 games that average near 65%, so that's another consideration.

If Ryan Mallett had 2 starts like that, we'd be hearing about how he'll likely garner double first round picks in the next two drafts. I'm not saying either one is better than the other, just that Flynn is much more qualified in the eyes of NFL GM's due to having 2/2 very successful starts. Mallett may have a ton more upside than Matt Flynn though, it's hard to predict or tell at this point in time.
