FWIW, here's a list of the movement of FAs last year that determines comp picks. I'm counting all FAs; if only FAs above a certain amount "count" in the calculation, that would obviously change things.

16 teams with negative movement (i.e., net loss, possible comp picks):

FWIW, the net "loss" by those 16 teams is 39 agents, but, capping the losses at 4 picks per team, that works out to 35 picks. [And, interestingly enough, all the AFC teams that pick after the Pats are in line to receive comp picks--and would thus lose seventh-rounders first.]

There is only one problem with this list. You don't take out the players who signed vet min contracts under $685K. Those players won't figure into the compensation equations. That could move teams from all around.

The NFL awards 32 comp picks every year, no more no less. If they award less than 32 comp picks, they will give comp picks to the teams with the worst record, almost like there was an eigth round to the draft.

as you can see they call them "supplemental compensatory selections" instead of "compensatory selection" and they gave to the teams with the 5 worst records. SO last year the NFL awarded 27 compensatory picks to teams for Free Agent lossess, and then awarded 5 supplemental picks to round the number up to 32.

Everybody gets a seventh round pick unless they trade it away or have it taken away by the commissioner's office.

If the formulas call for more than 32 compensatory picks in total or more than 4 picks for a single team, multiple lower round picks are combined into fewer higher round picks.

What I was trying to say--which may not have been correct--is that the seventh-round comp picks might be lost.

If the formulas call for more than 32 compensatory picks in total or more than 4 picks for a single team, multiple lower round picks are combined into fewer higher round picks.

I didn't know that; that might move the Pats' picks up a bit (since they could conceivably have received six picks if that were allowed), although I'm not as optimistic as Reiss (who thinks the Pats might get a 3rd and a 5th).

I was thinking the same thing this morning, so I looked it up and the NFL announced the comp picks last year on March 27, so I would guess we will be waiting for another month.
