He just signed w/ the Ravens for 3/6mill. Could we not have used him? He played both (well) corner and safety for the Raiders.

Who would he replace?

Perfect replacement for Reed....several years younger and rarely misses games

Newsome is playing the market well after the player exodus weeks ago

Gotta give him props...appears to be doing a masterful job. I believe they have like 12 picks in the upcoming draft too.

Great move for them, Ravens will definitely be competitive next year.

Umm....Gregory.

There is more to roster building in the NFL than simply replacing a player.

The salary cap is real, and genuinely limits how much a team can do in that regard.

Cutting Gregory only saves the team less than $500k.

Gregory is awful. That's why he should be replaced.

I consider Huff to be one of the best FS in the league. This is a great signing for Baltimore. I think his release from Oakland was just another Reggie McKeznie "he's not my guy" move.

His versatility of playing FS or CB would have been great for us. Definitely would have given us a lot of flexibility in our secondar.y What could have been :/

Or maybe Huff was cut by a bad team because he is, in fact, a terrible player and the Ravens were desperate for any safety who would take a tiny contract because they're up against the cap and right now they're looking at starting James Ihedigbo, possibly the only player in the league worse than Pat Chung. But that couldn't be it, could it?

Eric Smith was worse than Chung

I don't know much about Huff but he only got three years six million. Either the Ravens found a diamond in the ruff or he isn't very good. Time will tell.

Are you serious?

I'd consider him an ok #3 safety, a slight upgrade over Gregory. If his speed ever starts to go then his playing time will too.

I'll even be as bold to say Devin McCourty is a better Free Safety than him and McCourty hasn't even had a full year there.

Gregory isn't awful he just isn't a strong safety he is more of free safety and he isn't a starter. We overpaid for him yes but he is a solid NFL 3rd safety.

That's a bit harsh. He isn't a top safety but he is starting caliber safety.

I agree he doesn't fit a need here as our weakness was more at the SS position.

i think the pats are set at safety, now that McCourty will be going into TC knowing he will be playing FS full time in a contract year, i also see TWilson makeing that jump and becomeing a starter next to him with A-Wilson and Gregory as dept and they may even add a safety in a Draft that is deep at DB
