Report: Freeney wants 6 million per year

And Welker for $5M a year, and Arrington for $2M and Edelman for vet minimum.

It doesn't matter much what we would like to pay.

well..I hope the broncos sign him and eat up there cap space.....I prefer abrahma for ..2 for 5 with incentives....:rocker:

I know the idea is to shoot high right off the bat but uhh...yeah he'll get half that if he's lucky.

I still want them both.

i wouldnt mind giving abraham 3.5 or 4 million a year for maybe 2 years hes been very solid and consistent the last couple of years

Although I don't see Freeney getting close to that money, I think it would be funny that the Broncos lose Dumervil and end up having to pay Freeney $6 million a year.

Wouldn't mind having Freeney on the team as a pairing with Abraham, but certainly not at that price.

Elway is smart..he won't pay $6 mill a year for freeney or abraham...neither of them are worth 4 let alone 6

There are a lot of teams that still have significant cap space. It's curious that many of them haven't really done much in FA so far, and one of them could jump into the fray at any time.

If Freeney wants $6M per, he can go join Adalius Thomas, wherever he is, in waiting for a contract that's good enough for him.

That's not going to happen. Teams like the Bengals don't spend their money because they're cheap and don't care about winning, that's not going to all of a sudden change.

You never know..like DI said...at any point a team could jump in for freeney or abraham and pay them...we don't know

Isn't there a requirement that they spend to a certain (high) % of the cap this year? If so, how are they going to do that now?

It's one way to manage the investment in an NFL franchise. The value of the franchise goes up every year as the value of the league goes up, meanwhile you get to pocket profits as well. The Kraft model is better for New England, where he can make up the difference in cap spend with a ridiculous increase in the value of the franchise plus other marketing and sales revenue. But an argument can be made that the Kraft model wouldn't work in a far more limited economic area.

At this point in the offseason, it is doubtful. Typically that would happen in the early part of the offseason when the better free agent talent is available.

In this market this offseason, no one is jumping in and overpaying players at all (and $6 million a year for Freeney is overpaying for this market). That is why a guy like Cliff Avril or Elvis Dumervil would have gotten a mega contract where they would have gotten $15-20 million in guarantees and an average of over $10 million a year. Only a very small handful of players got above market deals.

Anything is possible, but I kinda doubt there will be any teams jumping in to be a major player for Freeney. I think teams are jumping in because they think they might get Freeney at a deal, not because they absolutely have to have him and overpay for him.

Plus, the guys who got above-market deals pretty much all went in the first day of FA (Wallace, Avery, Cherilus, Thomas, Ellerbe, etc... actually I'm basically just naming everyone that the Colts and Dolphins signed).

The cash/cap floor years have begun. That may, or may not, make a difference. Plus, it's not just the penny pinching teams that have cap space. I'm not saying any particular teams are going to jump into a bidding war, but I'm saying that it only takes one team to throw all the Patsfans plans (i.e. Osi to ATL, Freeney to DEN, Abraham to NE) off the rails, and there are multiple teams in position to do just that.

He may be saying 6mil, he's playing the haggle game.....both these guys want 5mil per, both are being offered about 4

I'm willing to easily say Pats offered Abraham 4mil/ 1 yr

I don't see the Patriots going over 4 for Freeney or Abraham, and a team wanting to get over the top will pay him more than they will pay either.
