Patriots Running The Old Switcharoo on WR Emmanuel Sanders?

Because, if he plays out his tender in pitt., and can somehow stay healthy he will easily command 6+ million a year when he hits FA the following year.

You really think his agent is going to advise him to sign a mediocre offer sheet when this is his "prove it" year? I don't.

I don't think there's much evidence to suggest Sanders would be expecting Cruz money less 1-2MM per on any offer sheet tendered by the Patriots.

Sanders caught 44 passes and one touchdown last season. Nobody in their right mind is paying him 7m a year.

Conversely, if he injures his foot again this year, after turning down the Pariots' tender, he'll probably be looking at a lowball deal with minimal guaranteed money from whoever signs him. It's a gamble either way.

The whole Sanders situation is just to punk the Steelers. They have very little cap space and they can't even bring back guys like James Harrison until after April 19th because of our "interest" in Sanders. This is just a badass metagame move by BB.

Why don't you think there is geniune interested there, just out of curiosity? It would seem that Sanders is not only the exact type of receiver that this offense could use, but also the exact type that has had success in it in the past.

Just curious...what kind of offer sheet do you think it would take to get him?

Remember this is his first year, as a full time starter. Like I said, IF (and that's a big if) he can remain healthy in a contract year his numbers, and skill set will get him a deal in the realm of Garcon, or Antonio Brown.

Also the Redskins, and the Cowboys will be done with their cap penalties next year. So the Skins are gonna have cash to spend, and a guy like Sanders would certainly appeal to Snyder.

At the same time like Brady FTW said...it's a gamble either way due to his leg issues. It all comes down to what his agent believes to be best.

True. but belichick likes his draft picks.

That's all well and good. I like them too. But he could easily give up a third for Sanders and still have enough ammo left to move down and acquire more.

There is a first time for everything. This year it might be a wr in the 1st round.

I've been here long enough to remember;

a. Belichick will never draft an interior OL early. Hello Logan Mankins.

b. Belichick will never draft lb's in the first. Defense too complicated. Mayo and Hightower.

c. Belichick wouldn't draft a rb in the first. L. Maroney

d. Belichick won't draft a safety early, values cb more. Hello B. Meriweather

He traded up in the 2nd round for Chad Jackson. And, from reports was ready to pull the trigger on Percy Harvin in 09. If he likes the kid, he'll draft him. Can we push this position non-sense to bed.

And I'd be paralyzed with fear if that happens given track record of drafted WR's here(couple exceptions). I have a feeling no way Pats pick in the first round this year. Trade back it is.

Couple of rumors flying around today. First, a few hours ago, was a report by Field Yates saying that the Pats "might" still have interest in Sanders.

Then, a couple of hours ago, USA Today says Sanders will likely stay in Pittsburgh, as the Pats have wavered on him and are now interested in Darius Heywood-Bey.

Honestly, looking at all the tape, the guy I'd love to see them steal would be Denario Alexander (I say this as someone who's had several knee surgeries).

I think Sanders was brought in to push Lloyd into signing a low contract
and/or
that the Pats would sign Sanders just high enough to get him to sign, but low enough that the Steelers would match - which ties the Steelers hands for other players

if we sign Lloyd for near the minimum, and sign a few UDFA's, and grab up a camp cut or two, and draft a kid (not even a premium one, say when we trade the 1st down and deal Mallett we probably end up with a 4th or two) the WR grouping will look better - in particular since AH will IMO take more snaps at slot and outside than he will at TE (why not, BB has to employ Ballard). Counting AH, the Pats have one of - if not the deepest TE corps of all time. You think BB won't cross the lines to get value out of them?

That makes your primary WR: DA, Lloyd, AH
TE: Gronk, Ballard, Hooman (or Fells, doubt it though, Fells is likey to be cut)
RB: Vereen, Washington

I'd say that's pretty good, and all we need is someone to battle for the 4th WR slot, and we've got a solid receiving corps - very solid.

I still can't believe the febrile whining about the state of the WR corps, as if BB was senile and forgot to do anymore...

What did you (generic you that is) do when prior inferior GM's were at the helm? No, please, I don't want to know.

Please!

Belichick gave us the year without a WR, the year without a LB, and the year without a safety. Let's not make believe that Belichick always takes care of needs.
