If the Raiders were willing to give up two first round picks for Carson Palmer, imagine the haul they're prepared to offer for Ryan Mallet.

They could overdraft a QB but the crop of guys this year are a complete crap shoot.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports Carson Palmer is "highly unlikely" to restructure his contract, which means his two-year Raiders stint is all but over.

Raiders are the worst franchise in professional sports.

Carson Palmer, for all his injuries and problems, had multiple years of moderate success in the NFL at the time of the trade. It was still an AWFUL move by Oakland, but it has no real bearing on Mallett's value.

Then again, it IS the Raiders... so the Pats might as cast the lure and see what bites :D

Man the raiders are so bad...haha

I remember when there were actually people in the media who praised the trade for Palmer and how it was a steal for the Raiders. I thought the Bengals could have gotten a 3rd rounder for Palmer. I was shocked what the Raiders gave up for him.

I would take him for a back up for Brady if they could trade Mallet. I am guessing though that someone will bring him in as a starter or at least allow him to compete for the starting role.

Mallett to Raiders! Bidding war between Browns, Cards, and Raiders! We end up with a 1st round pick and a conditional. Yeah, we can dream. :)

Do the Raiders even have a 1st left this year? Well if they give us a 3rd this year and a 1st next year, I'd take it! Jadeveon Clowney in 2014!!!

Don't forget about the Bills. Their starting QB right now is Tavaris Jackson!

Lol, Nothing speaks incompetence, inept, cluster***k more than the "Commitment to Excellence" team since 2003.

Actually, I think the Raiders are going to be a formidable team in about 3 years. They have a very solid management team lead by Reggie MacKenzie who took over a hamstrung roster due to terrible roster moves (i.e. Palmer). He inherited a team with a terrible roster and had basically no draft picks due to the Palmer trade, Pryor taken in the supplemental draft, and the Pats-Raiders trade from the 2011 draft. He is implementing the Packers way of development there. It will take some time but if they can find the right QB (Terrell Pryor maybe?), then that would accelerate the process. But I really think the Raiders have a good thing set up. They are kind of like the Houston Astros of the NFL, just blowing everything up and building through the draft.

More importantly, Al Davis is no longer there. He was one of the most influential people in NFL history but towards the end of his time, he lead the team into the crapper.

That sounds all well and good but their best player, DMC, can't stay healthy and will be gone after this year. Terrell Pryor will never be a decent QB. The Wiz is ok and Denarius Moore could be good but that's about it.

Here Raiders, Raiders. . . .

Agree with NEPF54, Raiders are finally going about things the right way. This is a sensible move looking to the future.

A much more realistic idea would be assessing the market of teams who are currently looking for a starting QB and realizing that Carson Palmer is yet another candidate of players above the highly-sought after Ryan Mallett.

Along with Palmer, we can also include Kevin Kolb and even Jason Campbell as QBs that other teams may want to look at as one/two year starters while their younger QB learns the ropes and competes for a starting role.

The QBs who have been taken in the offseason so far include such superstar moves as Drew Stanton, Bruce Gradkowski, Brian Hoyer, Matt Cassel, David Carr, Chase Daniel, Josh Johnson, and David Garrard. None have been traded for any type of draft pick compensation.

I'd put Palmer and Kolb as the 2 at the top of the list. It's still too hard to decipher the true feeling of the other 31 GM's around the league regarding Mallett who has no film or NFL experience. At the moment it appears that we wouldn't get anything close to a "haul" from anyone unless you'd consider that to be a mid round pick...at best.

The main question is what is Carson Palmer thinking? He will get his outright release, and then what? What is the market for his services?

It is obvious what Palmer is thinking. "I do not want to be a Raider and if it means arena league - so be it."

I can think of a few teams that might give him a call. Don't forget the team just sucks in general maybe he doesn't want to stay.

Not only that but he's shown he's a stubborn guy who is willing to walk away if he doesn't like it

Right, he's already very wealthy, and he automatically jumps to the top of the list for available QBs overtaking Kevin Kolb (unless we're including players in trades like Matt Flynn, Nick Foles, etc). He could get attention now and then again if/when someone experiences an injury in the summer.

I can think of at least one team in our own division, if not two who may at least give him a thought--although it appears as though BUF is looking to rebuild again and start over at the position. Arizona is another team that is in need of a starting QB.

Either way, I wouldn't exactly pencil him in for "arena league" because he's chosen not to take a pay cut either. We're talking about a horrible situation for him in the 2 yrs that he's been there. I'm sure he's glad to move on.
