- Finalize Vollmer.

- Finish a deal with Abraham or Freeney.

- Get Sanders done.

- Re-sign Edelman.

- Take care of depth pieces.

- Draft Tavon Austin.

- Draft defense with every other pick.

I can dig this, though I'm not really as interested in Freeney. Tavon Austin would be a nice pick, though I wouldn't mind if they went for one of the bigger receivers to give Brady a D. Thomas-esque target.

Where are these "other picks" of which you speak?

You do understand that there will be ZERO picks, other than perhaps a 7th if we do as you say. It will take at least our 1st and 2nd to trade up for Austin. Also, you have used our 3rd for Sanders.

Your list of work to be done is near impossible.

They'd have to trade up to get Austin so there goes the 2nd round pick.
Getting Sanders would take the 3rd and possibly one of the 7th round picks. As they may throw that in there like they did to get Welker.

Which would leave them with one 7th round pick.

Also not sure how Amendola, Austin and Edelman would work. Does Edelman become the #2 outside receiver behind Sanders or does Amendola become the #2 with Edelman being the slot wr while splitting time with Austin there?

Either way it seems like too much to go up and get Austin when they would have two guys with a similar skill set. Would rather they take a real outside guy with either the 1st or 2nd round pick.

I believe a bigger receiver could be had in the later rounds, maybe even in the 3rd, but Tavon Austin, IMO, would be the perfect pick for the Pats in round one. He does everything, and as we already know, Belichick loves players that could do everything. If you think seeing Hernandez run from out of the backfield was cool, wait until you see Austin do it. He ran for a SCHOOL RECORD 344 yards (and he's a receiver !), against Oklahoma, who was #12 in the country at the time, and had a very good defense. Austin has 572 all purpose yards. Also, he's a great return man, we wouldn't need Dempster.

He is THE PERFECT patriot's draft choice, if they have to, they should trade up to get him. He's going to be terrorizing the NFL for years.

I think if we were to pick up Sanders AND resign Edelman, I'd be ok with not drafting a WR this year. We'd then have Amendola, Jones, Sanders, and Edelman, who are all young enough to still be effective through the rest of Brady's contract (assuming health and fit). I'd rather round out the WR competition at that point with veterans, which could include a low number deal for Lloyd. Use the draft for for DB and DL.

Priority #1 Re-sign Vollmer. Close doesn't cut it.

I agree for the most part but Austin isn't going to be there, so it will have to be Woods, Allen, or Hopkins. I would use a first on Allen if he's there but would try to move down if I were going to take either of the other 2 or another WR.

Vollmer is done. Next should be pass rush aka the left over guy after denver makes a move. Then sanders or WR help

Tavon austin will be long gone by pick 29. I agree in that i would rather draft keenan allen or deandre hopkins.

I like 1,2,3 and 4....however on the FA front I'd also like to resign Lloyd....may e more so than any of those options

Yep, good points you guys. Then I'm fine with either (a) getting Austin and Sanders and having a very small draft, or (b) getting just one of those guys and using the rest of the picks on D.

I also would like to see Lloyd re-signed to a friendly deal. A year in the system with Brady should make him even more productive than last year. I believe the $3 mil had alot to do with his release and not his production as a WR.

- Finalize Vollmer.check

- Finish a deal with Abraham or Freeney.any decent passrusher will do, they don't need a big name

- Get Sanders done.not even sure if this report is true

- Re-sign Edelman.agreed, knows the system and he should be a cheap resign unless his agent is being unreasonable

- Take care of depth pieces. will probably pick up more after cutdowns

- Draft Tavon Austin.unlikely to last to our late 2nd round pick, and unlikely to be taken with our 1st

- Draft defense with every other pick.only if they are good players and present good value

I'm sure BB is working on something. It's just sooo slow in the offseason for the fans. Really agonizing wait. Once the draft gets here it should pick up again. Free agency has been ho hum so far outside of the Wilson pickup. DA was just a swap for Welker -- and there was much wringing of hands, wailing aloud, and beating on chests!!

Yup, that's true. But why should a 900+ yard per season receiver accept less than 3m per year? I'm sure he can get more from some other team in free agency.

- Finish a deal with Abraham or Freeney.

- Get Sanders done.

- Re-sign Edelman.

If you look at the amount of cash BB goes into the draft with, you will despair of this all being done.

We might be able to afford Abraham and say Lloyd, but Sanders really seems out of bounds to me. Plus this draft is strong in the 2nd through 4th, losing that pick is a big deal too IMO.

Like others said, Austin won't be there for us. So draft a WR and DB in rounds 1-2 in either order depending on whos there. Replace Edelman with Lloyd and I agree with your list.

:rofl2:

Not to nitpick your post, but wow, I think you really are making quite a good case against decriminalization. In what universe is DA merely a "swap" for Welker? Hell, we should just "swap" Ron Brace for Wilfork and free up enough money to tender offer sheets to Revis, Fitzgerald and Cruz. Even better, sign Cassel for cheap money and swap him out for Brady--then BB could have the pick of the litter in FA. :rocker:

It certainly appears as though the NEP are viewing Amendola/Welker as a swap, whether we as fans agree with it or not. Exactly how it works out remains to be seen, but he certainly has a lot of potential, has experience in this system, and will likely see a good amount of targets from Brady. He's certainly being groomed and set up to succeed.

They paid Amendola 6 million aav on a long-term deal, and offered Welker a measly short term slap in the face, so yes--it appears as though they wanted Amendola.

The fact that they had him basically lined up from the legal tampering period over the weekend and signed him the day before letting Welker go pretty much proves this. Unless they re-sign Edelman who could potentially play some snaps in the slot should Amendola get hurt, I highly doubt that they'll be using any resources on the slot WR position in the draft, not to mention that Tavon Austin won't last out of the early 20's.

I'd still like to see Edelman added as some insurance to this position, ST ability, and someone who is familiar with our system and can continue to try and progress outside of the numbers too.
