Mock Draft 2.0 Patriots Opt For Defense

Mock Draft 2.0 Patriots Opt For Defense
By: Steve Balestrieri

I still believe that the Pats may opt to trade down in the first round and pick up an extra 2nd round pick...

31. San Francisco — Tyrann Mathieu, CB, ex-LSU
With so many draft picks in this year’s draft, I can see the Niners taking a chance on the talented but high maintenance Mathieu. Could be a total bust due to off-field issues, but recently has made it clear he’s trying to turn his life around. Being teamed up with a no-nonsense Harbaugh could be a great fit.

Really? He is a day 2 pick at best. His combine wasn't to impressive to add to the off field concerns.

Combine Results

Height: 5'9"
Weight: 186
Arms: 31.18"
Hand: 9.38"
40-Yard Dash: 4.50
Bench: 4

He's going to end up sneaking into the late first. Dont count out Pats as possible suitors

Please don't trade out of the first round. I want QUALITY, not quantity.

From all accounts, this is the perfect year to drop out of the late first round. If the Pats don't like what they see, a drop back to the mid second would be in order.

I'll scream mind you...."why didn't you take Wilkerson?" but that's the way it goes.

In my opinion, this year's draft is stocked with quality talent that will be available in the 2nd, 3rd and probably slide into the 4th rounds. Unless a top 10 pick slides to the Patriots at 29, I would prefer them to work back and accumulate picks.

Of course this makes a lot of sense, but there is one problem, finding someone who wants to move up. Everyone knows that this is deep draft with few top picks. Who are we trading with? Who is going to give us a relatively high 2nd plus a 3rd or 4th for our pick?

On the surface trading back sounds logical, but just too logical. Logical to the point where it will be a buyer's market, and where is the value in that. Everyone one at the bottom of the first round will be looking to trade back. Some team is REALLY going to have to have fallen in love with some player to pay the price to move up. It takes 2 to make a trade, ausie. Trading back this year, might be harder to accomplish than you think. ;)

I have faith in the stupidity of other operations ken. ;)

So we know just how many of you have actually watched Mathieu play before. The guy is a slot corner in the NFL. Any team that takes him in the first round is completely incompetent.

I have no problem going defense first. I know we don't have enough picks. But, I'd like to add; DL, S, CB and OLB. And, a wr after the DL in order of priority. Just not enough picks unless Lombardi gives BB a sweet deal for Mallett. Like McHale did for Ainge. Sign Abraham and E. Sanders(Begrudgingly give up 3). I'd draft Short and M. Wheaton - WR - Oregon St.
You really need 3 wr's and maybe a 4th when you don't have a reliable guy like Welker around. Hope like hell Dowling stays healthy(quit laughing), Fletcher comes back and plays that lb who can play in space and A. Wilson has some gas left.
