Houston was just on about 10 minutes ago. Right now he's down in Florida training with Calvin Johnson. He said that he went up against all the top SEC WR's and he shut down Dwayne Jarrett in the first game. Man did he slip in a shocker at the end. He said that Arkansas doesn't really time their players that much. Apparently the only time they clocked him was his freshman year. Houston believes he's the fastest player in the draft and is aiming for, get this... a 4.27 forty! Kirwan replied that Houston is going to get a speeding ticket at the Combine.

I'm really impressed by Houston. He sounds extremely confident. I would love to see a YouTube clip of him.

If he runs a 4.27 he'll move up to a top ten pick, teams just don't pass on that type of speed. I didn't see the Ark/USC game but if he shut down Jarrett that pushes him ahead of Hall who was schooled by Jarrett.

Yeah I'm hoping he doesn't reach his goal, because like you said he'll skyrocket up the draft. Then again anything in the 4.30's is awesome. Perhaps we trade up?

I have heard he is very confident, the right attitude for a CB, very athetic and good in 1:1 situations.

I hope the Pats don't fall for the fast 40 time trap, whatever their evaluation it shouldn't be influenced by how fast someone runs. I don't like the idea of trading up in round 1 unless they think he is special.

Me neither. They should take everything into account. His production in college (check), smarts (check... he was on the academic honor roll according to his Arkansas bio), and size & speed (check). BB/Pioli have historically drafted players who are quick off the line/run good at the combine. Ellis Hobbs and Deion Branch are two examples. Ohh yeah, I forgot to post that Houston thinks Robert Meachem is the fastest WR he's gone up against FWIW.

You are wrong. Hall wasn't schooled by Jarrett. As has been pointed out, ad nauseum, Hall lined up on Smith most of the game and it was the other Michigan CB who was on Jarrett.

We could have a worst first round than Houston and Meachem, both players will rise after the combine. Use rounds 2-3 for LB,

His 62-yard touchdown behind All-American cornerback Leon Hall put USC ahead 25-11 early in the fourth and showed just how good the 6-foot-5 pass catcher can be.

He wasn't matched up on him the entire game but he did get burned by him.

Houston's a great cover guy, but is not great vs. the run and drops alot of picks. Not a playmaker, so probably a very good #2 cb in the NFL. Is that worth a rd 1 pick? I'm not sure. The Pats know how to draft solid CB talent in the middle rounds (Samuel, Hobbs). If they're going to draft a cb in rd 1, I'd rather he was a complete cb: a potential playmaker, good in coverage AND good in run support. Revis, Hall, Hughes, Ross, Wright seem better to me than Houston because of that.

hes not a #1 CB b/c he doesnt make plays? Asante dropped a ton..McAlister didnt really rack up picks in past.

a lot of CBs have questions about run support..hes my #2 CB right now..if he runs a 4.3 range..hes #1.

Houston is a great athlete, but Arkansas made him a gunner on special teams instead of a punt returner because he has hands of stone. He dropped alot of easy INTs just this year, and doesn't like to support vs. the run. A cb who has little special teams value, is reluctant in run support, and doesn't make big plays, doesn't seem like a 1st rd pick to me. There are alot of CBs in this draft who can help on special teams as kick returners because of their hands, like Revis, or AJ Davis. Their ability to handle kicks translates to their ability to intercept passes. Houston played cb as a senior in HS and was never an elite "skill position" player used to handling the ball. Asante was a HS QB, and Ty Law said he had amazing ball skills even as a rookie. It didn't translate to the field until his 3rd year preseason, but I don't really see that potential in Houston.

Well I'll take a great cover guy who can knock passes down over someone who isn't as good but can catch a pass.

We saw in SD what happens when DB's get the ball. :)

Fortunately, the Pats don't have to make that choice, because there are several prospects who can do both. Houston doesn;t seem to be one of them. I don't think Houston is appreciably better in coverage than the other 2nd rd caliber Cbs like Wade, Wright, Davis, Irons. Davis and Wade, renowned college track athletes, are just as athletic, if not more athletic than Houston, and just as capable of knocking away passes.

okay...Hobbs hasnt shown me hes a ball hawk and he did fine returning kicks

catching a punt/kickoff is a lot different than catching a pass from a QB

im sure hes working on that right now because hes aware. its not impossible to comeback and have great hands..Asante went from dropping so many to having 10 picks..still not perefect hands but huge improvment and anyone out there can fix that problem.

I'm just curious, don't take offense because that's not my intention. Have you actually broke down film of/analyzed said players? I haven't. But I'm going by draft guides who say Houston is a 1st rounder and excellent in coverage. You're the only one who seems down on Houston and I'm interested as to why that is.

he already said why..he says Houston doesnt wanna come up against run and says he has STONE hands

I don't have the skill or expertise to "break down" film like BOR or pats 1, and would never claim to have it. Like many other fans I watch a lot of college football and draft season events and draw my own conclusions. Then I like to compare my own thoughts with what I find out about certain players from what I consider trustworthy sources of draft information. The majority of run-of-the-mill sites derive their "rankings" from preseason lists leaked by the BLESTO and National scouting services, and then pretend to come up with the rankings on their own. Then they may do a smattering of film work, for which they are probably unqualified, and jump to conclusions about a players' "stock" based on "reports" and "rumors" and combine numbers. Trying to sort through the morass of misinformation can be difficult, but I believe nfldraftscout.com is a pretty reliable site that does its own filmwork and draws its own conclusions. All the criticisms of Houston I offered are mentioned there even more starkly. They compare Houston to Ahmad Carroll, 1st rd bust from GB a few years back. Houston will probably be a solid cb with some deficiencies that can be overcome, but because of those deficiencies I wouldn't risk a 1st rdr on him when other more complete players will be available.

Well if Houston has some great workouts and shoots up the charts, then someone else slides. It's good for the Pats regardless.

Ok, your with the rest of us. :)

NFLdraftscout is a pay site so I'm unable to access all of their info. I'm pretty sure they had the Pats taking Houston in their mock recently though.
