3M less? No way. Colvin's deal at the time was about 90% of the max he could have received.
The Lions at the time were offering a 5-year deal worth $ 23.5 million with a large signing bonus.
He signed for Six years, $25 million, $6 million.
4.7 vs 4.1 isn't 3M/year and they gave him an extra year of security to make up for it.
I usually like King but that is ESPNish reporting.
Peter King said:I PUT NOTHING PAST THE PATRIOTS, BUT ... From Tim, of Dedham, Mass.: "What are the chances Adalius Thomas ends up in New England? Last time the Pats made a splash in the free agent market it was for a linebacker (Rosevelt Colvin), so can they get Thomas?''
They have the cap room, but it's not the Patriots' style to blow a free agent out of the water. Remember, when they signed Colvin, they got him for a below-market deal because Colvin wanted to play for a great team and wasn't hung up on getting the most money. I hear Thomas will want a big payday somewhere. He'd probably have to take $3 million a year less to play for the Patriots.
